55 Plate Megane Estate tailgate won't open

Postby ChrisWright22 » Mon Mar 04, 2019 2:03 pm

Strange one for you guys and girls.

The tailgate release stopped working on my car so I replaced the switch and all was well in the world again (for 2 weeks anyway).

Now with the tailgate open and the locking mech activated by inserting a screwdriver (substitute for the clasp attached to the body) the button / switch unlocks the tailgate.

However, when the tailgate is fully closed as Renault intended the button dies and won't operate the tailgate.

I cannot make sense of this as the system works when the tailgate is open. The tailgate isn't registering as being open when shut (on the dash).

Any help or opinion would be greatly recieved.

Hi
Problem is most likely in wiring loom
Top lefthand side of tailgate.
Break in one or more wires in black
rubber boot, pull boot back to expose
wiring.search this site for "boot won't open"
Issues, the same area on the loom is problematic
The breaks occur where the loom folds in
the rubber boot.
Best of luck

As above wires have likely broken, if so when you rejoin them add a few inches extra to avoid them pulling apart
