Unfortunately it's not possible to remove the projector/lens assembly without removing the back of the headlamp which is glued on as far as I can see. My solution was to cut a piece of the dipped beam housing away with a slitting disc in an angle grinder. Drastic but it was this way or pay £100 each for pattern lamps..

A knitting needle wrapped in cloth can be used to polish the reflector. There is just enough space behind the lens to get your finger in to clean the lens. Glass cleaner removed the chalky residue. I presume water enters the unit and evaporates leaving behind a film.

Now the projector assembly can be refitted. Take note of how it fits as I believe it's possible to fit upside down.

I used Gorilla tape along the cut pieces edge. The tape went all around the cut so the lamp should be as waterproof as it ever was. The cover panel also holds the cut piece in place and the tape can always be removed later if the lens needs cleaning again.

Altogether it took me 2 hours or so including removing and replacing the bumper. Well worth the effort after raising the beam height a bit my dipped beams are like new again and I don't have to drive around dazzling everyone with my fog lamps on all the time . Hope this helps someone
