Can anyone tell me the largest diameter wheel I can put onto a standard 2006 cc. It currently has 17 inch std alloys.

If I lowered it would that alter the above answer?

I think you can go to 19 with very low profile tyres.
As for lowering beware!
Believe it or not the cc does not have much ground clearance mines gone down 10mm only on ventura springs and new OE shocks on each corner. Looks better and handles better wears 205/50/17 tyres on team dynamics rims.
The problem! She scrapes speed humps and if pulling in/out of somewhere lower than the road she scrapes its only the brace that protects the exhaust about mid way down car but I must say makes a cracking sound when it makes contact, also trolly jack does not fit under front jack point now so u have to scissor jack the rear point first to get enough room to slide jack under the front. Front valance also makes contact with kerbs etc.
And mine is only 10mm at most so don't be fooled by the space in the wheel arch. Ground clearance is not that much under her, but she does look better.

If you drive a lot 18 makes more sense plus 225/40/18 tyres are cheaper than the standard 205/50/17
