electric fault ..steering lock
Ok seems to be an age old problem .. So my car wouldnt start yest evening (1.4 petrol 03) . When start was pressed everything lit up but no attempt to turn over was made by car . After every 15 or so attempts "electrical fault" would come up on display. I have since removed battery terminal and replaced hoping for a miracle and then was confronted with steering locked coming up on display . Now i have the car 3 years and steering not locked was always on the dash every day and the car steering never locked ever , this never caused any problems but there now for the first time ever it locked in place and unlocks on attempt to start but car doesnt turn over ... so what to do .. is it a simple "electrical fault" or is this an issue in the steering lock mechanism . any help would be appreciated ..ps a complete new fuse box was installed a year ago

What did you expect when driving a car with a fault? Since then it developed a multiple fault, which is by far more difficult to diagnose. Something is wrong with the network or ECUs. Start with replacing the lock and checking the passenger compartment ECU and the PSU, after the fuses and battery, of course.

Nice! So, the lock didn't need replacement. PSU often suffers if the cover on the headlight access hatch is missing on the left front wheel arch cover. Check it as well.
The guy in the video is right about greasing up the contacts. One can use an isolating silicone grease or Krytox 205/206, the latter in presence of silicone rubber seals. The contact blades just cut through it. Don't use Coppa Grease, as it is slightly conductive.

Re: electric fault ..steering lock
And I was with exactly the same problem Steering Lock/Steering not lock. I was at Renault but once told me the amount I gave up and got my cars back. After much searching I recommended a master who can fix this problem. I called him and against £ 200 cardinal the problem is solved. Now electronic lock stay in my garage and car starting without problems.
