brake discs

Postby kevlynnbailey » Tue Sep 01, 2015 11:16 am

I need to change the front and rear discs and pads on 2005. I understand the bearing is built in on the rears. are there any special tools required.

Also is there a PDF based workshop manual as opposed to printed.

thanks

Hi. I have just changed my front discs myself. They are just like standard ones. Caliper off, disc off, replace disc, push piston back by hand / wood and refit. Took me a couple of hours on a sunny day. I decided to let my local garage do the back ones as I didn't want the hassle if the bearings were hard to get off and you need a winding tool to wind the rear pistons back. They charged £70 labour. Total cost all round was around £400 for the lot I think. Still cheaper than £666 quoted from Renault dealer. Hope this helps you.

thanks. I do have a tool that winds the piston back in. a cross section of the rear discs would be good.

There are some pdf's for the megane on this site that you can look at. I think the one you need is titled MR364MEGANE3. It shows the braking system. :D
Page 52 is about the rear brakes.

Just did my rear discs all very simple you'll need the torx socket to unbolt the caliper bracket.
I wound the caliper back with pliers.
A long braker bar will be useful as some of the bolts will not want to undo.

Had a whirring on my offside rear so ended up having my rear brake discs done this week
367 quid Inc labour for the pair.
