EU Referendom
What do people think of it? Would you want to remain in the political union or leave?
I wounder if we did leave, what would happen to the UK "GB" number plate.

Re: EU Referendom
we joined the eu when I was a teen and the idea was we had a joint currency and have never had a vote for a Europe with separate states (countries) as it is today..
We need to leave, turf out the 8 million that has seen the population swell from the 54m it was back then and put the long lost "great" back in Britain ....

Re: EU Referendom
I say get out, sure there's advantages to being in it but I feel the disadvantages outweigh them.
Dump the GB on the number plates too, it makes it unbalanced and looks wrong.

Re: EU Referendom
as an outsider, I would also say you are more in a loos than in win situation if you stay in EU.
there are some benefits of EU if you are in busines that has global market, and there are EU founding, but all other is just making the german bank system wallet thicker.
Greek for example, has paid back the depth 2 time in interest fees alone, but still didnt touch the returning of the credit it self and gees what, it cant, as the interest fees are so high they cant.... and in the end it goes to few privet owner of huge bank systems... and the Germany is not in a loos even if the Greek leave, as they got back the money they borrowed, + 100% more....
EU is a big bulshit ...

Re: EU Referendom
Of course, it's just yet another level of government over one's head and an attempt to expand the monopoly on currency. If one is happy with the national government, then this is not needed, and if unhappy, then it doesn't make sense - you don't treat an illness with poison!

I agree. I dont like the idea of United States of Europe with a president. I always vote for the queen at national elections.
Her politics is by miles better than the clowns wanting 10 downing street
.
Here is how I see it.
The argument for EU (a political union i.e different from Europe a continent):
* Peace. Look at the mess in Ukraine and the EU bombing Syria even though we said we want nothing to do with it.
* Prosperity. Look at the P.I.G.S. Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain.
* Sovereignty. Look at the treaty of Rome, its all about making Europe one country, so therefore we would lose our identity (even worse lose Miles to Kilometers).
The only thing that makes me think twice is that if we leave and do well, the EU nutters might punish themselves in order to punish us by making trade difficult but then again Great Britain has the common wealth which is actually growing a lot faster than Europe.
Scotland has threatened another referendum if we leave but I think they were lucky last time as the world oil prices have dropped so by now they would be in serious trouble.

I heard about this the other day, the Bolchavic Broadcasting Corporation and other mainstream media are being very quiet about this. Could it be because the pro EU money is flowing there?

Re: EU Referendom
A guess of a lay man could be that it is in the interests of the UK to be in a better position with respect to the near neighbours who suffer both socialism and double governments. So, let's support them while keeping a distance. Fundamentally, socialism with its massive regulatory machine is economically inefficient. It requires control over the neighbours, hence EU. In the UK, the public sector is "only" 53%, so without the EU-infected countries across the channel it would be difficult to find a matching partner.
Regarding the direction of flow of the money (currency, actually). Just look at the external debt figures of the UK and various EU countries. The public debt is awful in the UK, but the external debt is negative, as opposed to the EU countries, due to the City being on our land.

I agree. Socialism just doesnt work as ultimately they believe in Utopia. Africa has embraced socialism and didnt work out too well for them.
The french president introduced a 82% income tax and was shocked to findout that the rich simply moved to London.

Re: EU Referendom
Yep, funny.
A small correction, though. Socialism is neither utopia, because it historically existed and continues to exist, nor Utopia, because the latter never existed as described in the book.
The two most outrageous forms of socialism were the Nazi Germany with it's National Socialist Labour Party, and the USSR/China/Cuba with their communist labour parties. Despite minor differences, they caused death of an unbelievable number of people, communists beating the Nazis by a huge margin. A common characteristic of the socialist formations is brainwashing of the majority of population, the dependent class, into thinking that their life may improve through redistribution of wealth, which is somehow not called a robbery. These people usually fail to notice that most of the redistributed wealth never reaches them. We have plenty of socialism in the modern Western countries as well (think of the public sector and central banks).

Yea, this is the madness of the current situation, and it is a clever guy talking.
The "only" problem is that he is peddling the idea of a small government and preserving the violence monopoly within a particular territory. See the series of podcasts beginning with this one:
https://youtu.be/OLD6VChcWCE
It's like suggesting that reducing the size of Stalin's/Hitler's/Mao's violence monopolies was possible and could lead to anything positive. Strangely enough, he is criticising the violence monopoly, while suggesting to preserve it in a reduced form.
