First off let me clarify that I have a LEFT HAND Drive Megane... :)

I pulled the switch that was above the brake pedal on the driver's side and pulled the plunger out a couple of clicks as recommended in the previous link. I'll see how the drive goes to work later.

Is there another switch on the passenger's side or are we talking about the same switch???? I'm a little confused, but I'll have a look later.

Thanks!!!!

A

Well I didn't have any problems on my 45 min drive to work... I will have to give it a couple of days to see if the problem rears it's ugly head again. Crossing my fingers... I'll update this thread around the end of the week.

Problem Solved!!!

HOLY COW!!!

It was the Brake light switch!!!!

It's been over a week and the problem has pretty much gone away. I can't believe that all it took was a little fiddling with the brake light switch. A HUGE thank you to all of you who helped me out and responded to my post. If we were in a pub, I'd buy you all a pint!

My apologies warthog, it is indeed 37A-28 of MR364MEGANE3 and not 37A-28 of MR364MEGANE2 as I incorrectly typed before. I have corrected my the reference in the other thread as well now. Just to be absolutely clear to anyone else having this problem, the unit you are looking for is the one physical twist in switch unit that operates from the brake pedal on a left hand drive car, or in that same place on the left side still even if you have a right hand drive car. It is one plastic switch unit, but electrically inside it is two separate switches. For me, the one pair of contacts that operated the brake lights were fine and so I didn't look into it any more until I found that it is a 2nd switch inside the same unit that was causing my problems! Just pull the plunger out a few clicks (the manual says you can pull it out to its full length and it will auto adjust when the pedal is pressed) and all your problems will be solved :D
