sunroof dropped!

Postby cliopapa172 » Tue Apr 21, 2015 7:56 am

Hi all. I have an issue with my sunroof. Of late it is struggling to open without cracking it's leading edge on the rear section of glass. Sometimes it won't open at all as it hits the rear section and shuts again. Had a good look and it seems the mechanism has "dropped" so the sunroof is not high enough to clear as it opens. I sat in the car and gently pushed the sunroof up as it opened and it worked fine. Is there a fix for this or is it yet another money pit problem or one that we are just going to have to live with?? I have to say after owning Clio's for a number of years, this is the WORST car I have ever owned for constant problems. :banghead

Sounds like the rubbers on the sunroof arms have failed. Recently replaced mine, they had virtually disintegrated !
Cost about £5.00 plus 10 minutes to fit

Hope this helps

Thanks Sanmiguel. How many rubber bushes do i need? I take it must be two? Are they located at the bottom of the lifting arm, ( as it looks when open). Apart from a torx/star key to undo the top fixing on the arms are there any other tools you would recommend I need for the job? Cheers andy

You need 4, 2 on each side. I can't add pics, but if you google it, its quite obvious where they go. Honestly took me 10 minutes to do, and that was with a cuppa...
My roof still rattles, but the bushes have stopped it catching.

aadam7531. Not sure what is causing your problem, but you may like to know that there is, allegedly, a reset button in the middle of the knob you turn to open/close the sunroof. Look up www.getflat.co.uk and there is a PDF manual. On one of the pages there appears to be a reset system you could try. Don't quote me on it being a fix for your issue, but anything on these cars is worth a punt!

I try to reset that couple times, suprise me is open this morning really smooth without any issues. I closed then that doesn't won't open again maybe some connection problem... I really don't have a clue
I find some rusty marks on the sunroof arms. Maybe I try change rubbers

I don't think Renault had a clue when they were building these cars either. Could be an earthing issue or as you may suspect a stray/ cut wire which could be an issue to trace and correct.

I would shut the sunroof and never use it again! Chances are next time it plays up the sunroof will be open!!

I have changed the rubber 'feet' on mine - took 20 mins and stopped the rattling. Your problem does sound electrical and fixing it could open up a can of worms...

Just to update on this. I ordered the rubber feet and fitted them today. As Sanmiguel says 15 minutes of a job, tad fiddly, but now my sunroof opens properly! Cheers Sanmiguel for your info. Any one else with the same issue, for a change it's an easy fix! Now where did that warm sunshine go........?
