Honestly, I've never had so many probes with a car. In the last 12 months I've had a new clutch, timing belt, coolant sensor, wiper blades, exhaust welding, rear window temic module, headlight adjustment, rear brakes.... and now I have an issue with intermittent starting. Arrrgh.
For the last couple weeks my car has started to struggle to start. Lights on dash are ok and the engine turns over. Whilst it turns over, the dashboard display dims and lights go off, sometimes it eventually starts and other times it has to be left. It's just unreliable to the point that I don't' know whether I am going to get to work in the morning or hone at night, so not great.
The fact that the dash dims whilst the engine is turning suggests to me that there's a battery problem. Chances are it's the same battery that was fitted in the factory and the car is 9 years old now so maybe it's tome for a new one. If anyone has any other ideas before I go down that route, shout up please!!!

You know what, that could be it. I thought the alternator just charged the battery but I found this article which describes my car to a tee.

My windows do go up quite slowly, the engine idles quite 'bumpily' and the acceleration of the car isn't at all good, far less than I wold expect but I always figured it was the heavy glass roof weighing it down. I will see if I can get it to a garage tomorrow.

Well it was worse this morning. Pressed Start and all I got was a hiss and a click, then nothing more. It is booked in for Monday at a garage.
Shame I have to cough up dollar to get it collected and taken there.
Will report back on Mon.

49 quid for a tow to the local garage. 72 quid for a new battery. It starts (winner!) and definately feels a lot smoother though, so all's good.
Next up, new brake pads!
