Locking wheel nut cover

Postby sanmiguel » Wed Mar 25, 2015 2:28 pm

Aaarrrggggghhhh!!!
went to remove wheel & fallen at first hurdle, the locking wheel nut cover is stuck fast. It feels like the key will snap before it shifts. Any help/advise on how to remove this ?

Are you using the normal nut wrench to turn the key? If so then you're better with a suitable socket on it, that way you can get close to the load thus reducing any movement and applying more torque. If that fails and you're ok with a drill you can drill them out, if you're not then most tyre places and garages wil oblige for a fee.

It's the 3 pin key that removes the top cover so you can then take the centre cap off to reveal the nuts. It's the cover that's stuck

maybe try some plus gas? It's magic on stubborn rusty things :D

Other option is to get a screwdriver and tap the bolt round using one of the holes.....a bit tricky but do-able as i had to do that when i lost my wee 3 pronged key

Yep, sprayed some plus gas on last night & again this morning. Will be following this procedure tonight & tomorrow morning.
Then I have some free time to tackle the cover removal. Will let you know what transpires....
Popped in to SET tyres on my way to work yesterday, even they couldn't remove it.....

Isn't that just made of plastic? Mine is. I would think you could just lever it off with a screwdriver. Probably break but won't cost much for a 2nd hand one.

That baby is stuck tighter than a tight thing that's very tight - it will not move :banghead
To add insult to injury - the headlight bulb has blown on this side.... managed to get it out but the spring clip came out too.
I'm beginning to hate this car :mad :cry
