CC shaking it's ass...with the roof down

Apologies if this has been posted before, I tried a few searches but came up empty...

What's with the wobbly drive with the roof down?? I've been told the suspension bushes are all a bit naff and had a look for some Powerflex bushes but so luck, barring the generic types (which may be an option...). Do they all wobble their back ends with the top down?? It's very unnerving, feels like it's gonna twist itself in half

simply because it was the first I looked at and with the roof down it felt exactly as you described when on a particular stretch of road and crossing rail tracks... grrrr


Its absolutely normal on some bad roads !!!!

Yes I have to confess, that my first spirited drive with the roof down was a bit of a shock!! But that's the penalty you have to pay, with the roof down you loose a lot of body strength, plus you have the weight of the glass slung way back over the rear. Plus to keep the weight of the car down a lot of the body panels are plastic not steel or aluminium. As with most things in life...... Its a compromise.

All soft tops, rag tops, convertibles, etc etc are renowned for having a bit of a wobbly bottom and a certain amount of "fluidity" in the chassis when the roof is a million stars!

It's to do with the weight distribution, rigidity of the body panels and other highly complicated (waaaayyyy beyond my understanding) design features.

In a nut shell no roof = waggy arse. My long gone Volvo T5 C50 had a seriously temperamental rear axle when driving in a "joyful" and "spirited" manner

I find now in the CC it's two different driving styles "roof up" and "roof down".

Still who cares! So long as you stick within the legal requirements it shouldn't cause you any problems. On the track however

Has anyone heard of any way to improve the situation?? I've heard of cross-bracing options for some CCs (ie. other makes), that might improve the stiffness or rigidity somehow...

I have used a company called ultimate racing, in the past. They did a huge range of cross braces and interior stuff for my Hyundai. It is possible that parts for the megane coupe will fit the CC.....? But it might be a bit of trial and error, but as long as you let them know what you have in mind they should be able to help/advise.
