Newbie with a problem

Postby coachpotato » Sun Oct 05, 2014 8:40 pm

Hi, my name is James, I live in Wisbech, Cambs and I'm on here because my Fiancee has just bought a 2004 Renault Megane 1.5dci Dynamique. This is the first Renault she's owned and, after coming from an 02 Vauxhall Corsa C 1.2 SXi, is still getting used to all the switches and gizmos. I'm not that up on Renaults either so will be on here asking questions etc from all you lovely people. :-)

One question I have now though is on friday she text me saying the service light has come on, yet the service isn't due for another 17'000, but at the same time as the light came on the computer system is now showing 'electrical fault'!

Any ideas????

Thanks in advance

Hi and thank you. I have only just been able to reply as this is the first time I have been able to get on the lap top in a few days, for some reason I can read the forum but can't comment on it via my phone, (Samsung S4), keeps coming up with 'SQL error' what ever that is. :(

Anyways, I've looked through the problem section and followed the route of a loose conection under the seat, had a look at her car but found the connections were fine but then I thought about checking the connectors on the clutch switch and found that someone had cut the wires. I think what someone had done was to cut and join the wires together to be able to start the car without pressing the clutch or brake, god knows why. Anyway, recoconnected to the switch and all is fine now.

I've only driven the car twice now but it seems a very comfortable car and for a small engine it seems perfectly adequate for what she needs it for. she seems happy enough with it and is getting used to how diesels drive after having driven petrol cars only since the 1990s.

I was very impressed when I put £30 worth of diesel in and although it was only at half a tank the range showed 448 miles. Can't even get that out of my 2.2 petrol Vectra on a full tank, lol. Sadly I'm unable to stretch to a new car just yet but when I can it'll have to be a diesel now me thinks. ;)
