Folks.....my 2004 Megane DCI 1.9 has suddenly had issues starting
It normally starts after 2 cranks......but the last few days it was 4......until the other day it started but died after 2 seconds, then just turned over and didnt start and the battery went flat
I put a new battery on and tested the alternator. All is fine but again, 4 cranks before it started.
I went shopping and tried to start it....it started after 4 cranks but then died after 2 seconds. I then tried to start again but it just turned over until a few tries until it fires up
Any ideas?
Ive checked the new battery and alternator and they are fine. Im thinking fuel filter or crank sensor?

Re: 1.9 DCI startingissues
Slight update
My neigbours eagle eyes spotted a small fuel leak from the low pressure fuel line below (the ribbed looking pipe)

Ive done a quick fix and cut away the split par and reconnected it and it works......it still takes a few turns to start but its working.
I can see loads of bubbles coming through the pipe pictured.....but none coming from the hand pump fuel line.....so this leads me to think the air is coming in from the fuel filter?
I plan to replace it tomorrow and will have a look at everything and see what i can find!

Re: 1.9 DCI startingissues
swap that pipe or repair it.
about the filter unfortunately these fuel filters sometimes starts to crack in the joint area, bad glue, low time to heat up the area while being joined together, you name it, the fact is that it happens sometimes
you will be fine i think after these two repairs
cheers

Re: 1.9 DCI startingissues
I had similar issues last months on my 1.5 dCi. Starting difficult when the motor was warm (took about 5 seconds).
Did replaced battery (no improvement), replaced fuel filter (no improvement), cleaned crankshaft sensor (no starting improvement; though did improve running of engine).
Last thing I performed was replacement of the camshaft sensor and that took care of it.
Also; in the end I used bluetooth obd interface and tablet to read error code (P0340 Camshaft error). Maybe you can also read the engine? Modules are pretty cheap (20 euro's).
