Postby den9112 » Fri Jan 03, 2014 2:55 pm

Hi, after spending a fortune on mechanical parts this car is driving me nuts,.....Number plate light not working ,bulb changed still not working ,hi level brake light not working but how on earth do you change that,AC not working light on dash shows ,Heated rear screen not working light on dash shows....were do I start ,all fuses OK ,what a nightmare this car is ,I don't mind not having AC even though it was in Renault last summer fitted with a upgrade wiring kit and regassed,i don't mind the rear screen not working but I do want the brake light working.....I have taken the rear cover from the back and nothing appears to be disconnected , my main concern is the hi-level brake light ,any help would be appreciated .Thanks

You will probably have to check form breakages in the wiring going into the boot lid through that rubber flexi-tube / grommet type thingy.

Thanks for the reply ,what I have noticed is when I wiggle the rubber boot at the top left hinge on the tailgate the tailgate boot opener clicks ,like the solenoid is clicking in ,its pretty loud like a du dum dud dum ,sorry best way I can describe it....hopefully this could have something to do with my number plate lamps not working and my hi-level brake light as I know the worst thing with electrics is finding the fault source

like previously stated you have to check that wire loom...pull down the rubber cover from the loom and check for continuity between those wires and the 3rd stop, and to the window heater...etc etc...its a lot of wires but you will soon get where thay go and will discover some broken wires there most probably.

your problems fortunately are not just for you, feel relieved that several other owners have or had them :D

cheers

I believe I have found the problem, upon inspecting the rubber elbow at the top left of the tailgate hinge I have found at least ,what I can see is 5 broken wires , One white(large) 2 brown , one blue and one black ,OK so it appears that this is were my issue's with rear number plate light, Heated screen and high level light come from,i can see the breaks but I don't have the equipment to do the job ,and it doesn't look like their is much spare wire ,as anyone come across this were so many wires have broken and how they went about fixing so many,or how long and cost it would take a decent auto electrician to do the job,and if anyone knows of one in this postcode OL12 .Thanks

If you can reach both ends of the broken wires , you can remove the out plastic case and solder in new pieces of wire to extend them , cur some heat shrink tube and thread on the new wires so it covers the solder joint and a piece for the other joint and when soldered both ends use a hair dryer to shrink the tube
Drive it like you stole it

Thanks all for the replies , today due to spending just a bit to much on the car and with a timing belt due ,new tyres needed soon also a drive shaft , the electrical problem as tipped me over the edge and I have just P/X the car , total trust of the car as gone and I just felt that the next problems which will happen are going to be expensive ones ,I don't mind the usual wear and tear items ,great engines but let down with shoddy electrics and now my love affair with the 1,5dci is now over ....you just know when a car is going to start costing you more money
