I didn't even get home!! my electrics went Na-Na - although the I got the main relay box blown out and WD40'd and a DTC wipe, it ran great after that! a lot smoother

Used to have a similar problem with my 1.9dci - shook even when nicely warmed up. It does still shake a bit now when cold but is ok when up to normal temp (2nd bar on the dial).

I took off the EGR, cleaned it up and tested it (check out the Pierburg website for details), unblocked the oil return pipe going from filler bottle to engine and cleaned out the intercooler and pipes. Also changed the air, oil & filter and fuel filter.

IMHO cleaning the EGR valve made the most difference as it was badly gunged up, causing the service light to come on.

When the car does occasionally get a bit shakey a good bit of welly seems to cure it!

yeah i actually flushed the engine then serviced everything, the pipes surrounding the engine etc where all ok i put parts cleaner through them anyway just to be sure but the egr valve and inside the housing was covered in carbon, i didnt clean the pipe going from the filler bottle though nor the intercooler, whats this pierburg website?..... cheers for reply

If i remember:
MAF sensor too late /interemittent
Main relay / interemittent

Took the car in foir its Safety recall (tail gate) and it wopuldn't start at the dealership so now having to pay multiple hundreds for them to change the UPC as they believe thats the issues as they found corrosion on multipugs and water ingress. :cry :cry

When we got it running last night and I drove it home it was the sweetest it had run.... EVER! if the ECU is fed off the UPC and thats giving intermittent current drops that could explain it running rough, mis-timed squirts(if you pardon thre term) leading to poor economy.

Is the upc the lead going into the ecu? Sounds like an easy fix to me....

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVERYTHING seems to go the UPC, body control stuff like central locking, engine stuff injector control -all powered directly or indirectly from this overgrown fuse tray.

Injectors are fine because it's idling fine, no knocking noises either and it pulls well

the topic says "engine vibrates on idle..." and you say the cabin vibrates on idle. i would check the injectors. its easy and eliminates one source of problem

cheers

Car back from dealers, I'm now a lot poorer.

Car has donw over 140miles to day with no random electrical senility, MPG is back into the low-mid 50's cruising at "around 70 officer" for the motorway legs of the journey. Still got the neavy vibration when cold sitting at the lights though, might go back to my original plan of a injector cleaner and a EGR cleanout.

This vibration looks like the top engine mount. The ECU makes the warm engine to idle lower when stationary. I had it once with F9Q-800: coasting to the traffic light, everything is OK, then stop and here the vibration begins...

i really dont think its injector as its not off a cyclinder at all, the power is still there and no knocking noises..... i think it would be a waste of time to do any tests on the injectors.... my mechanic said the engine mounts are fine....... its strange as sometimes it doesnt vibrate...

It does not vibrate sometimes because the revs do not fall so low for some reason. Read the manual for the conditions when the idle revs become slightly elevated. It is a silly thing whose only purpose is to reduce your road tax... I am guessing, of course. Have a look yourself at the mount point. There should be a gap between the rubber and the metal bracket above it. Check also if it is installed by the old marks on the paint. Check the torque of the bolts, the table is in the manual.
