Panoramic Sunroof Catching

Postby emu1 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 4:23 pm

Hi all, when I open the sunroof on my megane the back edge catches on the rear panoramic roof section (I have to push it up slightly when I open it to stop it doing it!!) it only does it on opening doesn't touch when closing.....
I do get a bit of wind noise when travelling above 50mph with the roof shut too..
Is there a way to adjust this at home without taking to a garage?
Any help most appreciated :-)

Sounds like the awesome plastic bushes which sit on the metal bracket at the back of the front section need replacing. It's a common thing that they fail as its an awful design. Renault will charge you 80 for a repair kit which includes 2 metal brackets, grease and 4 of the bushes, whereas in reality you only need the bushes. I have a link for it all but am replying on my phone st the moment so ill reply again a bit later with all the info

Indeed you can matey, they can be found here:

A good how to guide (although you will need to use google translate to make some sense of it) can be found here:

I done this on mine and made such a difference, if the metal brackets are broken then you will need to purchase the renault kit i beleive

Did this cure the wind ingress as miy sunroof whistled at 80 but since opening it with the decent weather now whistles like a boiling kettle at 30 and above!

Going to give these clips a try due to the wind ingress, will report back when done (probably 6 months time if they get shoved in the outhouse and forgoton about like many other odd jobs!) :D

I read somewhere else I think it might have been on a different post on here about lubricating with silicon spray the seals around the glass (easier when the front part of the sun roof is removed. I think where the roof is removed to do the bushes a good idea would be to silicon spray the seals in case the rubber got dry over time. That would help to reduce the whistle.

Fitted the bushes today, I was suprised just how easy it was! 3 screws either side, pop glass off, rear sliders out, swap bushes and put back together and grease.
Wind ingress has gone (not been above 65 yet though) and road noise seriously reduced. The bushes were knackered and dry hence causing whistling and juddering on opening.

I replaced the bushes last week too. It has transformed the operation of the roof feels like new now :) :) all for the shake of £7.50
Also regased the AirCon as it is unbareble in a 3 door with panoramic roof lol.

I changed the bushes on mine yesterday too. Really easy and for once none of the screws had seized.

Rattling all but gone but wind noise has increased. Silent up to 60/65, starts becoming noticeable at 70 and no doubt would keeps increasing (if I ever went above 70...). I'm hoping to adjust it tonight if possible.

anyone else got any ideas?

Glad to report no wind ingress at motorway speeds :-)
