diy boot floor with perspex

New to the forum so my first thread spent my weekend doing a wee project so here's some pics

My old boot lining was all caved in and worn so decided to do something a wee bit different!

Also made a cut out to be able to see my spare alloy wheel! And added a few extra touches, all just for show!




First time doing something like this, folds in half to get the spare wheel out also any feedback would be great l

Looks a thick piece of perspex , was it hard to cut

Looks like a good job and you have exactly the same extinguisher as I do

The perspex was only 3/4mm think, its screwed to the underside of the mdf used a jigsaw to cut it so ended up cracking around the edges but you cant see it from the top side, aww do I? Just a cheap one off of ebay just for show

Agreed, quality extinguisher, why pay more than you have to? I bought 1 after witnessing a fire on a Subaru being put out with one, seemed a small price to pay if ever the same should happen to me.

Yeah I agree, my mates take the mick cause I only have a 1.4 but they wont be laughing if their cars are to ever catch fire and I watch them burn to the ground haha

I'm old and whilst the pattern wouldn't be my choice the job itself is worthy of praise don't you think?

For a first time maybe, but not something to be publically proud of. To me there's no attention to detail at the fabric joins and i' m thinking you'd need to lift the whole thing out to get the spare out in which case how do you disconnect the amp/sub. Fabric choice, let's not go there - each to their own.
Far better to use a carpet type fabric which stretches around the joins and hides imperfections than a flat unbacked material which shows every joint and imperfection.

It's easy to sit back and criticise things that people have taken the time and effort to do. Well, I'd like to publicly congratulate JIOWNN on a job well done, keep it up mate and keep on posting the processes and results

Nice to see this is such a friendly forum haha! Yeah this was a first time and for your information the material had no stretch in it makimg it extremely hard to wrap around the shapes required, the material- something a bit different can easily be covered or taken off in the future and for your remark about having to take the floor out.. incase you cant read- it is on hinges and folds open in half allowing the spare wheel to be removed easily without having to disconnect sub or amp .. but thanks for your opinion

It’s easy to criticise on an internet forum soI tried to add constructive criticism i.e using a stretchy material instead. You are fully entitled to use whatever material and covering you want and be proud of it, just don’t expect everyone else to be as equally enamoured with the result. But back to topic, one thing you could do is add some LEDs in the tyre-well triggered by the interior lights

oh the joys of modifiying, whatever we do to our cars theres always someone who doesnt like or agree with it, down to personal opinion obviously

only pick i would have would be to make the floor camo and sub box camo the same rather than 2 different shades and patterns, although it does stand out better how it is, maybe you could wrap the fire extinguisher the same as the sub box haha
