Accelerator sudden stop.

Postby mrkieran23 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 11:56 am

Hi guys,

I have noticed a problem with my new megane, its a 1.9 DCI 54 Dy 120.

When driving along the car will suddenly stop accelerating as if i have removed me foot from the pedal, not a massive problem as I just take my foot off and put back on again/.

I had the Computer checked and a fault code was there showing the throttle position sensor to be the problem, this has been replaced with a new one yet the problem is still there

Any thoughts?

There is no throttle position sensor in this engine, because it is a diesel.

Do you mean the accelerator pedal potentiometer?

What was the trouble code?

My bad, yes the accelerator pedal potentiometer, i just assumed it was that.

I cannot remember the code, but it said it was the pedal sensor on the computer.

Ill be going back again in a few weeks so will get the code.. hope its not something serious

I had the same problem with my 1.9dci, I seem to have fixed it by rotating the EGR valve 180degrees and disconnecting it.

Not had any problems since.

What do you mean by Rotation it and disconnecting? do you need to rotate it to remove it? and I assume you just reconnected it?

Try unplugging it first and see if it helps

Or go the full hog and

Take the EGR valve out, fist you will probably notice that it's covered in carbon deposits. You could try cleaning it up and replacing but it will be covered in soot in a few thousand miles again.

Split the valve and the electronic actuator then place the valve back in upside down, only one bolt hole will line up but that is all you need to hold it in place, then put the actuator back on top.

You don't need to unplug it but i done it anyway just to make sure it doesn't work at all.

Mine has been fine so far, the EGR valve is only supposed to work while the engine is warming up to help reduce emissions and warm up quicker but they get covered in soot and won't close properly thus causing flat spots and loss of power.
