Re: 2003 1.9 dci.
maybe its the pressure switch fitted on the AC radiator. Its attached to the engine radiator, its a common fault

Re: 2004 1.9 dci.
hi many thanks. Had it filled to 500 pressure ant it was intermittent so we filled it to 540 and it worked. If it stops again is it possible to short the switch and see if it works?

Re: 2003 1.9 dci.
i suppose its possible but that can be dangerous to the AC components, especially the compressor...the switch its there for a reason, to figure out if you have sufficient gas or not. i think you should find the leak and not short the ppressure switch
cheers

Re: 2004 1.9 dci.
i have had it checked for leaks and no sign of any, at the minute it seems intermitant. You have to switch it on and off a couple of times then it works.
When it works it blows out really cold air, so the compressor must be working!!! can this just be down to the switch, if so is it easy to get at and replace??

Re: 2004 1.9 dci. Turbo problems
Trying to remove turbo totally collapsed. Have got the turbo loose in car but can not get it out of the car. Tried removing it from the bottom but not enough clearance, how do you you get it out?
Please help any body...

Re: 2003 1.9 dci.
I'm not sure that this thread has much continuity because it started off as an inter-cooler problem, morphed into an A/C debate and is now back with the turbo.
I believe you have to remove both intake and exhaust manifolds, oil feed and return and the rusty bolts to the cat. This is from memory having scanned the Haynes manual a few years ago.
There must be a procedure for this process in the pdf manuals. Like Alex, I periodically study them, and get somewhat infuriated when persons expect others to read them and quote chapter and verse (likewise with the Haynes, which at this point in the evening I cannot be bothered to go and type out its contents).
Download them, use the search function in Adobe Reader, and find your solution.
I wish you well - if you have got so far as you have, you will have done better than the majority on this site - myself very much included.

Re: 2003 1.9 dci.
Firstly many thanks for your reply, I am new to this forum and not quit got used to creating new threads.
I will try stripping of the manifolds tonight, tried for ages last night to get it out the bottom as people have advised but there is not enough clearance.
Cheers

Re: 2004 1.9 dci turbo
I have stripped the manifold off the car and finally freed the turbo. The air compressor side impeller is totally shattered and just fell out, the exhaust side is ok no sign of oil.
I plan to clean out pipes, inter cooler and oil/filter change. Is there any thing else you would recommend (egr valve cleaned).
I have bought a brand new turbo so hopefully once cleaned and assembled every thing should be ok.
Ps can you reuse the manifold gasket or do you have to buy new?

Re: 2004 1.9 dci turbo
Congratulations on your success! Do all the things you mention, making sure everything is VERY clean. You might have had parts of the impeller wheel enter the engine and thus damage the valves/or other stuff. I would also scan for stored problem codes, and perform a compression test.
I believe the gasket should be replaced - and do not forget to prime the new turbo with oil prior to fitting it. Ensure you have the exact same model, as Renault change the part variously at random. The codes on the aluminium plates should be the same.
Clean the EGR - this is a 10 minute job if you have the manifolds out already.
Let us know how you get on!

Re: 2004 1.9 dci turbo
Many thanks for your quick reply, the help is fantastic.
The car was stop instantly at the time noise started and toed home by Rac so hopefully reducing the chance of any metal entering the engine.
Fingers crossed as it idled perfectly fine before it was stripped.

Re: 2004 1.9 dci turbo
Just an update: stripped all pipe work, int cooler and flushed the lot. Oil present in all.
Good sized impeller bits found in inter cooler, all removed and flushed again.
Allowing to dry and start to re assemble tomorrow.
Garage told me to leave egr off, blank up and use a resistor across connector so it is permently open, give better performance. Is this true?

Excellent!!! Double check everything, more than once!

No, this is misinformation. This is 2012, not 1930. The EGR and all the various components related to it have been designed by a large team of people with many degrees and letters after their names. Leave the EGR in place. If it malfunctions, fix it!

Re: 2003 1.9 dci.
Engine all put back together, just need exhaust gasket and fill with oil. Tomorrow night is the big day.
Is thre a picture of the engine layout just so I can check vacuum pipe layout.
