Hi guys.
Just wanted to give a quick update on installing a K&N air filter for my 1.4L 16v Megane.
Took me about 20 minutes or so do unscrew the air box and the air filter enclosure. Needed a torx screw driver to open up the air filter enclosure and installed the new filter. Immediately after putting on the engine, there was noticeable difference in sound. Nothing too crazy but was nice to hear the engine breathe a little bit better. Took it for a quick test drive around the block and didn't notice anything particularly exciting.
The next day, drove the car properly down from Limerick to Lehinch (Ireland), 74km each way, mixture of motorway and small b roads. The throttle response of the car was a lot nicer and there was a definite improvement with the car accelerating. Nothing amazing as you can imagine as the car is only a 1.4L but it did put a smile on my face. The best improvement I think from the filter is the mpg. My combined cycle went from 29mpg to 35.2mpg in that one trip, which is pretty impressive when you consider the price of the filter and the fact that it will not need replacing. Got the air filter off Ebay, cheapest place I could find it with free shipping and now going to get one for my wife's Seat Leon.
Anyone else has any experience with the K&N Air filter on their car? Any ideas if there are any induction kits available for the 1.4L Megane? It would be nice to get a little bit more poke out of the engine.

Pretty sure there's a 57i kit available, I've just put my K&N Apollo CIS kit off my truck on our 1.6 as it's a universal fit.

Re: K&N Air filter
Thanks neilldrever for the info about the K&N Apollo kits. I was just wondering if there is a significant boost in mpg and/or bhp as compared to just having a standard K&N Airfilter with the normal box so as to make it being worth buying. I really like how the car feels with the new air filter and was hoping to find a way to give it a little bit more poke. If there are any inductions kits out there that would fit my car that would be helpful.
I found these by Green Cotton and was wondering if they are worth the money. Would rather save the money to spend it on a new suspension kit if there will not be a major difference in performance

Re: K&N Air filter
I can only speak from my experience with the Apollo kit which is a slight increase in mpg but mainly smoother acceleration and a nice sucking noise at higher revs
Looking at the price of the Green Cotton one it's similar the the cost of a K&N 57i so my opinion would be go with the K&N

Re: K&N Air filter
Cheers for all the info. I had a look at the K&N Apollo and from the videos posted online, it looks and sounds pretty awesome. Will have to have a think about it and see how it goes.
How hard is it to fit in the engine bay and where does the air inlet go?
Also, is it hard to get rid of the factory airbox and air inlet?
Thanks

Re: K&N Air filter
Factory airbox is a bit of a pain to remove in that you need to remove the battery, battery plate and ECU but fairly straightforward. On the K&N website they suggest removing the factory fitted ducting which means getting under the front of the car, etc. but I didn't bother. My Apollo filter is nicely wedged into the space where the standard box was and the inlet rests on the factory ducting under the battery so gets a good cold air feed from that.
The only other thing the mention is that, with a 57i kit, you get a silicone hose extension that runs from the carb to the filter but with the Apollo you don't so you will need an adaptor to attach it to the factory pipe where it would normally go into the standard airbox. This does mean that you retain the existing setup for all the additional pipes and stuff and i've found that it holds everything nicely, albeit a bit of a bodge job due to the fact it all came off my L200 Warrior and I didn't want to spend more money really
Here's a picture of it as it is now (my tweak it when the weathers better):

And a closer look of the positioning:

Re: K&N Air filter
Wow. Looks pretty cool. Sounds like a lot of work to be honest but the results I bet was worth the effort. Might hold off on doing that for the moment and see how the car does with just the K&N filter. So far I am quite happy with it and I reckon, there is not going to be much of a performance gain with an induction kit. Or am I misinformed?
Thanks a million for the pictures and the reply. Really appreciate it as it puts things into perspective
