wondering if anyone could help
i drove to the shop last night an heard a knocking noise coming from the engine, its still there today. i carnt work out what it is.
its not a ball joint or anything like that as it does it when stationary. it really strange i never heard anything like it before.
could it possibly be a misfire

Re: knocking noise
From that description, it could be anything (not being rude). Can you literally see anything moving with the bonnet up and the engine running?

Re: knocking noise
That sounds to me like valve chatter especially if it is coming from the top end. If I didn't know better (and I don't) it would be time to adjust the valve clearances. You'd have to read the factory manuals to see if hydraulic lifters are used on that model and learn about the variable valve timing (commonly referred to as the dephaser).
Check the oil, both for its clarity and also for contaminants. A major bearing failure would lead to bits of metal contamination. This would be evident in the form of a metallic sheen. Low oil or blocked passages would also precipitate the problem.
It doesn't sound like it is missing, so I doubt the plugs or coils. It could be pre-ignition (or knocking).
Sorry to not be so specific. Other's may have a better informed view.

Re: knocking noise
I dont think you should drive it like that ,
Sounds to me like maybe the oil pump failing or a broken valve spring
if its the oil pump and you run it , it could damage bearings, crankshaft and conrods which is a very expensive fix.

Re: knocking noise
press your clutch and depress it, check if the sound goes away or if it changes.
The RPM of the car are still in idle or does it fluctuate? It sure sounds like something loose, the sound is so uneven, something is shaking inside something (what a phrase
)
For start do as dave told, check your camshaft and see if there is any spring or valve broken. Dont drive the car until its clear what it is. If its a valve broken you can still repair the engine, if you use the car you will wreck the whole engine...check for oil coming up (take out the oil cap and peek inside, the oil should be there slapping around.
