OSR Door - Cannot open from inside

Postby kevcal » Fri Mar 23, 2012 10:53 am

Hi,
I have a frustrating problem with my Scenic 2 Privilege (05 Plate)..

OSR Door cannot be opened from inside, but works fine with outside handle.
All NSR door functions as expected.
Child proof switch works as expected wrt the electric windows on both OSR * NSR windows; looking at the wiring this implies the switch is working correctly.

Switch loom:

Code: Select all

A1 + lighting
A2 + before ignition
A3 Earth
B1 Rear electric window locking / child safety (if equipped)
B2 Not used
B3 Child safety indicator control (according to level of equipment)

Red light no longer works on child-proof switch.
Clicking the child-proof switch seems to do a door lock/unlock cycle twice.
I've had the OSR door apart and checked the lock without the 6 wire loom disconnected and it functions correctly mechanically.
Reattaching the loom and reconnecting the battery causes the child-proof switch to appear to work for a second or two and then it reverts to it's faulty state.

I've reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes...
Any ideas on what I can investigate next?

I've looked at the loom and noticed there are 6 wires; namely:

Code: Select all

A Deadlocking status indicator (childproof)
B Deadlocking system motor     (child-proof)
C Earth
D Lock sensor
E Common motor connection      (child-proof)
F Locking motor

If I can't track the fault, do you think there's any mileage in just disconnecting B & E (possibly A as well?) as on the entry level version the loom only has:

Code: Select all

A Lock sensor
B Earth
C Locking motor
D Locking motor

I'm open to advice :)

I had the same problem with my 2004 1.5dci. The NSL would not open from the inside but fine from the outside. I replaced the locking mechanism on the door itself and that cured the problem, it worked inside & out. It was strange though cause nothing looked untowards. The door has been fine for 18 months now.

Must admit that that's been my thinking, although no idea how much the lock will be...
EDIT: Quick check on ebay implies < £50 hopefully(!)

I was just thinking that maybe there's a problem with the feedback to the UCH or a bad connection on an output somewhere...

So of course it may not be the lock.. although from what you say it sounds likely.. especially as the other side is okay..............

Is the lock lubricated? I had a similar problem with my boot. Also, I seem to think that there is a screwdriver override on the outside of the door. I can't remember if this is relevant or not...

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Yeah all lubricated...
The problem has now gone though(!)

Noticed the light come on the child lock switch the other day... and realised the triple beep every time I started the car had stopped as well. Sure enough, when I tried the door lock from the inside, I discovered it's now fine.

So.. will leave it for now - maybe a bad connection to the UCH or something like that (a self healing car possibly).

Another thing though is it now beeps once when I lock it and twice when I unlock (or the other way round) - it never used to beep at these times at all.. I can live with this I suppose.
