boot tyre

Postby mainandtail » Sat Mar 10, 2012 2:50 pm

Hi
does anyone know the best tyre to fit in the boot of my wife’s 07 megane convertible, I can't trust the tyre foam when we travel to France to see our family, all the tyres are in good nick but you never know, is there a space saver for this car.
many thanks everyone

Your dealer will I'm sure be very happy to sell you a wheel and tyre, otherwise look for a full size whell at a breakers, then buy a tyre! Sorry that's the best that I can suggest for now.

Seem to remember reading a thread on a forum stating that a space saver from a certain model VW Golf would fit except for the central hole needing machining out by a millimeter or two and I think it said you also needed different bolts for the steel rim.
Google space saver for Megane2 cabriolet or some such term and you should eventually find it, might look at it again myself some time in the future.
If you fit a full size wheel as a spare the boot floor cover needs modifying as the wheel sits much higher.

If you have the shallow boot liner to go with the aerosols then a space saver is all you'll be able to fit in there. If you want to fit a full size spare then you need the deeper liner, which Renault will flog you for about £120. I picked up a 16" Nervastella to match the ones already on mine, complete with a nearly new Goodyear for about £40 on eBay.

I put Ultraseal in my tyres, it mends a puncture as soon as it happens. You also get more miles out of the tyres as they run cooler. Should cost around £45 to do all four tyres.
I run a 06 Megane CC with 64k on the clock, had it from new and it will be making its 6th trip to Portugal in May.

Hi Ray welcome to the forum, interesting post had never heard of Ultraseal before. Loads of info on their website, gonna search for reviews of the product to check out others experiences of it. Don't usually go anywhere near snake oil but this has got me interested as I like most others here don't have a spare.
Interestingly the company is in Exeter about 30 miles north of me.

Edit: Just noticed that the site I visited was https://www.Ultraseal.biz but the product there is called Puncturesafe.
