Convert Electric Windows to Manual?

Postby freddymercurystwin » Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:22 pm

Anyone ever done this? My drivers side has packed up again and as I expect to keep the car until it dies (joy) I'm not sure I have the will to be faffing about with unreliable windows so am considering converting it to manual. I couldn't care less about it being electric frankly I only open the damn thing about once a month! Do some Meganes even have manual windows?Assuming they do I don't see why getting the gear from a breakers and swapping it over should be too painful! Any thoughts anyone?

I'm sure that even the entry level models (Extreme and Authentique) had electric windows in the UK. The Authentique being the 5 door had manual wind ups in the rear but they're different size and shape to the front. So what sounds like a straightforward job may be tricky as the parts might not exist and you could be a pioneer in this area!

Well if no Meganes even have winders at the front then the plan is a no goer! :(

Why dont you move the window regulator/motor to the unaided part of the door?
This is what I did to mine-

Not sure how clear it is from those photos but I've basically bolted it in place where no water can get! :-)
