Check Injection, Cold start problem.
Hello!
So, I am new on this forum and I own a 2003 Megane 1.5 dci 60kW.
I am experiencing an unusual problem. I am getting a "Check Injection" message and the "service" light comes on. The car then starts very hard when it is cold. It takes up tp 8 cranks to start. Every crank it is like it wants to start but then dies. it goes to abou 500 rpm and then dies. When it starts it is like it would be running on 3 cylinders/running on missfire with lots of white/gray smoke. When the engine is warm, ther is no starting problem. The unusual thing is, when the error is deleted, the car starts and runs great. Is there any chance it might be the EGR valve causing al these problems?
I haven't found any solutions on the forum, so I've opened a new topic. Hope I didn't do something wrong.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
Hello!
First of all, thanks for reply!
I've alredy checked the glow plugs even though they have been changed lately. They all read the same as the battery.
I think if the glow plugs were bad, deleting the error would make no difference, but it does. But that's only my opinion.
Had the problem this morning again. Lots of smoke, lumpy idle, strange sound untill car has warmed up. Any other suggestions?
Again, thanks for reply!

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
The voltage on the glow plugs is the same as on the battery's. 12.5V

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
can you check the 12v presence on the glow plugs cap? it should be present for a while when you turn on the engine.
Cheers

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
You mean on the connectors that come on the glow plug?
I have measured the voltage..it doesn't get higher than 11V while cranking or when the glow plugs are heating up. Tried to measure the current and got no reading... 0A...should there be any current when cranking betwen the connector and the plug?

yes, it should have aprox 12v, which you have but the glow plugs should consume something. did you swap the test points of the multimeter to measure current?

Ups
Well, tried it the other way...the power comes to the plugs 100% sure. Had connected a glow plug that was in the garage, and it got hot. So I guess the relay is ok?

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
yes, thats the idea. You must do that with all of the 4 glow plugs. the test went fine on all the 4 connectors?

The mechanic said it is the EGR valve causing problems.
Will change it and report!

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
Im having the same problem at the minute mines only started last monday, my check injection and service stays on all the time, but when the engines warm it starts fine, ive bought new plugs today gonna fit them tommorow and see if it works, mot due on saturday so hopefully its sorted. If not i think it could be the egr valve as theres loads of info online about them getting dirty.

Hello!
Did you get anything sorted?
I have changer the EGR valve with a used one (supposed to be ok) The car ran much nicer and also the accelaration was improved. The thing is...after driving for abou an hour i got the "Check injection" message. What I have noticed is that the minute the message appears, the car has a noticable rougher idle, and when accelarating, one of the injectiors has a clanking noise. I'm starting to guess it's a faulty injectior, or has something to do with it's electronics. But hopefully someone will explain it better.
Any other suggestions?
But like i've said, when the error is deleted, the car is like new. Have another appointment with mechanic tomorrow. Will post any news.

Re: Check Injection, Cold start problem.
Today tester showed a faulty no.1 injectior. =/.
I will get it restored on monday.
