Hi,
I just got to the forum,
and I have questions.
I looking for a Estate car, and at the moment I stopped at a Megane 2 Sport Wagon. Im interested only in 1.5dci.
The production years I can buy are 2006-2007. I'm wondering about something: Is the 86 strong enough for a Sport Wagon? I do not race, but easy on the pedal. Would 106 consume significantly more diesel? Do you know average consumptions for a 85 SW and 106 SW?
I see that they are generally free of major problems, but also heard that the 86 has some kind of Delphy engine electronics (injectors, pump, ECU) which is prone to some problems of the pump and injectors, while the 106 version (which have Siemens injectors, ecu...) is immune to this problem. Do you know more about this.
Any other reccomendations regarding my Megane 2 SW buying?
Thanks
Possible dci Sport Wagon user.

Re: Possible dci Sport Wagon user.
Buy the 106 version, the difference in fuel consumption will be neglible on longer runs, slightly less on shorter ones. But the power will be needed for it.
Re: Possible dci Sport Wagon user.
What about older 101hp from 2004 vs 106hp from 2006, about comsumption? I actually do not have enough money for a good 106, but have for the good 101...

Re: Possible dci Sport Wagon user.
The 100bhp from 2004 has a 5 speed box whereas the 106 has a 6 speed box. If it were me I'd save up for the 106 or if that wasn't an option go for a newer 86 rather than an older 100.
By the way, the estate/station wagon/sport tourer weighs pretty much the same as the hatchback so it doesn't really 'need' greater power (always nice to have though!).
PS. My 86 bhp returns 60-63mpg over the course of a year, and many folk on this forum report a lot better than that.
Also the 86 bhp is £30 a year road tax, at least it is for my hatchback.

Clio 1.5 dCi 88 Dynamique Tom Tom in Oyster Grey + Twingo GT in Pearl Black on a '58'.
Re: Possible dci Sport Wagon user.
The 101hp I found, is end of 2004 year, first and only owner, milage is true and only 145.000km (about 90.000miles). Car in very nice condition, no big repairs, no crashes, and above all that, relatively cheap. For a 106 i would need about 30% more cash and for a good 106 maybe even 40% more.
Re: Possible dci Sport Wagon user.
I can vouch for the 106 model. It can return 80mpg on a very steady run. Also, having it mapped gives it the same figures as a stock 1.9. Swings and roundabouts with regard to the money element... weigh up what you want from the car...
Silver 08 plate 5dr 1.5dci Dynamique 106 Tech Run (re-mapped)
Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120
Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Yes, You are right.
This 101hp is about good. Good condition and good equipment (cruise control etc).
I would like the 106hp, as it is newer, more powerful, and 6th gear, and also Siemens electronics. But than, I would need to buy it imported, from a dealer, with unknown history, and unsure milage.
The question that conserns me now is: I heard that those 1.5dci are only good engines for up to 150k to max 200k km? So, this one already has almost 150kkm, so I'm afraid if it is not very close to the end. In that regard, I know the newer model would be better, or better say, lower mileage model would be better, but than, I have no trusted dealer/person to buy it from (with real mileage/service history).
So, my heart tells me to go with the 106, but the braint tells me to go with this trusted and full-service history 101hp from my neibhour.
I also think that the 106 consume more in city driving with traffic and start stop..... Im not smart....

Re: Possible dci Sport Wagon user.
I cant see how a diesel would last only 200k km if its properly looked after ( regular oil changes ). You probably mean the turbo will die after? That can be replaced, or even better if you dont rev it up when engine is cold, and have proper oil managment, it most likely never will. Heard that >2005 dCi engines are prone to turbo failure, but I guess this is cause most of the shops never knew what kind of oil it uses, since it was a "new" car.
I am having 6l/100km (40mpg) on my daily commute 150km. Its 130km on highway and 20km on normal road. But I do drive , how shall we put it a bit faster (but not over the top). Oh my car is a 1,5dci 100bhp one and its running like a dream. Dont expect those low consumption like those people stated (60 mpg, or even lol 80mpg) unless you drive really slow and always under 2k rpm, and ofc never stop, and its always sunny, and downhill
. But its still good economic car nontheless.
If your buying the 2004 version, its not bad, just have your ears peeled for the turbo sound when reving up if it has some strange noises, and ofc check all electronics prior to buying:)

Thanks for the post.
But, how fast do you drive on the highway so that you use 6l/100km?! 140kmh? As I understand, from numerous sources, including my neibhour, on 120kmh the consumprtion should be way below 5l/100km. The Laguna 1.9 dci shoud consume 6l on the highway! No?
