85MPG after fitting Cruise

Wow, is all I have to say...

I just drove 350 miles to Cornwall and back today - I managed 80MPG at 70mph and 85MPG at 60mph.

This was whilst using cruise control as much as possible.

Did you install it using the guide on this website. I want to do it but not sure if i'm brave enough?

Well kinda - I bought all the resistors and had put aside half a day for faffing with wires etc but I was in luck:

I bought a cruise air bag & switches from a breakers for £75.

I removed my existing air bag and noticed an existing black plug with a red and black wire going into it, the plug on the end of the CC buttons fitted it perfectly.

I also bought the Master Switch which plugs into the white plug behind the switch panel on the right hand side of the lower dash. I fitted this, turned it on and left it behind the dash. (you don't need to enable/disable it all the time anyway)


That's it, all relatively simple for me... Pop your air bag off and see if you have this spare plug underneath. You could do this without disconnecting the battery if you are just looking DO NOT unplug the air bag with the battery connected. It wont blow up in your face, contrary to what people suggest, but I think it will hard fault and will need resetting by a dealer or equiv'.

If you DO have the plug then all you need is the air bag, CC buttons and CC master switch. If you don't then you need to fanny around with resistors and splicing too.

Well worth it though, for the MPG and also you don't realise how tiring it is keeping to a constant speed...

I really must get round to fitting cruise control. Although I've got a feeling that my 2.0 Petrol won't ever display a figure like that on it's MPG screen! I went retro fitting mad this time last year - heated seats and tyre pressure sensors were really easy to do. The original xenon headlights and cruise are next on my list... it's just finding the parts. I've tried fitting the Carminat Sat Nav system but no luck yet, there's a wiring loom missing.

I wish i had a deisel... driving a 1.6 dynamic petrol, cruise control at 60 gets me 45mpg... cruise control at 56 gets me 56mpg... i travel to crawley from peterborough every weeked so its a1/a14/m11/m25/m23.. without a single stop (not even dartford toll as you can crawl through) so cruise control is magic !!



But what i will say is.. i can get 60+mpg keeping the throttle at 54/55mph without cruise control and making sure you speed u[ gently if you see a big hill... remember how cruise control works, it ticks over all the time using more petrol than you think

so if you can persist without CC, do it. As i have the most tedous drive in the world... i cant.

I tend to do the same on motorway hills. Usually dropping down to 50-55 just using the throttle.

I'm not sure it makes much fo a difference - for every side of the hill you go up, you go down the other side...

CC has made motorway journeys less tiring too I've found. I drive from Cornwall to Wiltshire every weekend. So spend 3 hours each way on the M4/M5...

Thats very good. If you do long journeys, cruise control prevents your foot from feeling heavy.

Mine is currently on 50.8 mpg but that pretty good if you take into account a 130 mile trip to the centre of London with half an hour traffic jam.

got mine up to 63 to scotland which was before the remap so hoping for a bit more on my next long journey. Was sticking at 65 all the way there
