A sad story with a happy ending

Postby Robkelz » Sun Aug 14, 2011 9:00 am

I had a driver in a Mercedes 4x4 right off my Megane a few weeks ago :( She came hurtling round a bend at about 50mph on my side of the road and was close to hitting me head on, i swerved as much as i could but felt the full impact on the rear of my car. I'm lucky it hadn't of been a head on smash and is it might have been a different story. Anyway as you can guess the driver didn't stop, they put their foot down and sped off, by the time I'd got out the car i couldn't read the reg because they'd got that far away. My insurance is going to be through the roof :( The smash totally ripped the whole rear axle away from the car, the impact from the 4x4 pushed my car off the road and into the side of a parked van.

This is the side that went up in the air and hit a parked van:

This is the side i got it on, doesn't look that bad but the recovery guys must have straightened the wheel up to move it about:

Pretty gutted about my car, i did truly love her! It was heartbreaking seeing all her smashed up, especially when it was no fault of my own. I basically stripped her before she went to the recovery yard as i knew i was going to get another megane, i didn't get enough out of this megane to finish my megane story there!

My megane was a 1.4 dynamique 05 plate with about 46k on the clock, my insurance paid out £3,400 (which i was pretty happy with as she only cost me £3,500 11 months ago).

Soooooo i went and bought exactly the same car but in a different colour with about 10k less miles on the clock for £3,400 and here she is:

P.S - Renault definitely do deserve their 5 star safety award, i was really impressed with all the airbags and safety features that were activated upon impact

Cripes :eek it's good to see that you're ok after that and yes, 5 star safety award is great :tu

Have you got an idea off your insurance as to how much your premium might rise or did they manage to track down the perpetrator?

New car look the dogs btw, love the colour 8-)

Sorry for the extremely late reply! My insurance went from £800 per year to £2,450 per year, which totally sucks. The driver responsible was never caught :s

Surley the insurance company could claim from the unisured loss fund for this and not penalise you for it as the driver didnt stop and it was not your fault. What the insurance actualy say about it? I would seriously fight it
