How to get power cable through the firewall

Postby hapination » Fri Oct 12, 2007 5:29 pm

I'm having some trouble getting a power cable through the grommet in the firewall. I can get the cable through alright but my problem is when trying to access the cable from the engine compartment side. The air filter blocks all visibility to the grommet from the engine compartment side.

Does anyone have any good tips as to how to get a cable from the pasenger compartment to the engine comprtament easily?

Try sticking the cable to a bit of stiff wire and pushing that through. Alternatively take the battery, battery tray, ECU and airbox out.

as above, but if you cant find a stiff wire...use about 0.5m of a thinner gauge wire, and tape ie up to your power with with duct tape so it dont come off.

what gauge are you using??

You could just route the damned thing under the car and drill a hole in the floor(!)

My first attempt was actually to strip the engine compartment of all the things in the way. But after I got rid of the battery and ECU, but I wasn't able to get the airbox out. So I was left with only the wire coat hanger option.

I was able to push a coat hanger through the firewall and with it a thinner cable. My next step is to pull a wider cable through with the help of thinner cable.

Hi I want to install amplifier and have a question, maybe you could help..
Where did you found the grommet that you can get wire through the firewall. Did you found it by removing the glove box, or is it located in other area? Thanks :-)

Crikey, this is an old thread

Yes the grommet is behind the glovebox. There are a few torque screws that need taking out, then it just slides out.

ive managed to get a 4 gauge and a 8 gauge through the small hole in the grommet so it is possible to fit it thought (with great difficulty)
