Postby carolyn3007 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 6:56 pm

looking for a bit of help here i have a 1.5 dci megane went garage today to have new exhaust clip fitted, but when i started car to drive in the fitter told me he didn't think it was my exhaust it was my injectors after he looked at it i have leaking seal on one of them and i did need exhaust clips again, the mechanic next door to the exhaust place had a look hummed and hummed more then said it was a tricky job and couldn't give me a price till he stripped it down then said but i dont want to scare you but your car could go on fire i then had to go to work a nervous wreck but going to try garages in the morning can any one tell me roughly how much it cost to have a seal done so i dont get the lets rip off a woman patter

How odd. Open the bonnet, pull off the engine cover, then start it. Have a good look around the injectors and the associated pipework from the common rail and to/from the high pressure pump. If you can't smell diesel, or see it, you have no problem.

Although its a easy job, just need a morning or an afternoon dedicated to change all the 4 injector seals. Did you made some service on the injectors recently?

Are you saying that the engine has been rebuilt due to a cambelt snap?

If so, all the valve seals, guides, seats, tappets, shims etc should have been replaced/repaired at a machine shop - properly. Other work was probably also required (new injectors and re-programming thereof). Get a receipt of the work done then contact whoever did the work. I should imagine there ought to be some guarantee subject to timeframe.

Hey there
Just had a very similar prob, my 1.5dci was leaking fuel from the injector seal to fuel return pipe, arnold clark quoted the following, replacement part £70.00, to supply and fit £320, to supply and fit and replace starter motor which they recommended £530. Had a very good friend look at it, he removed the seal from injector to return pipe and noticed the tiny O'ring had perished, replaced and reconnected now sweet. Cost of this job was £1.13 from B&Q and of course the price of a pint. No fuel had leaked on the starter motor so no need to replace............yet.
