performance on 1.4

Postby keeforelli » Wed Jan 21, 2009 6:43 am

hi guys

just wondered what other ppls thoughts were here- i drove a new shape astra 1.4 last night, 08 plate, and it really felt gutless compared to my 1.4 megane- i know the astra is a good 10bhp down on the megane, but it kind of renewed my love for my car that it fels so pokey and rev hungry for such a small engine!!!!

any other experiences out there with this engine?

Last year I had a courtesy Corsa 1.4 Design while my wife's old-shape Corsa 1.2 Design Easytronic was in for a service. Like you I wasn't impressed - very sluggish unless revved hard. And that wasn't easy to do as the pedals were offset and the seat so hard my legs hurt... A world away from my dCi!!

My previous car was a Tigra 1.4 and to be honest it felt pretty nippy. It was a lot faster off the line than the Clio 1.5 dCi100 i traded in.

My brother has a 1.4, and compaired to mine there are a few positives...

1) Much quicker to heat up
2) No VVT so no Defaiser problem
3) Stops in a shorter distance. ( We both have green stuff pads, must be due to less weight)
4)In my opnion it resoponds alot quicker ie when you put your foot down. ( from a rolling start he can take me over the first 20m or so!! )

Hope this helps.

always been impressed with the wifes 1.4 for a little car it goes well, not as good as my 1.5dci but for a nippy round town car it does the biz apart from when it chews up and spits out a coil pack........

No, 1.5 100 previous shape clio. When starting from standstill it was very hesitant, particulary when cold and didnt really wanna go unless i gave it plenty of revs. Once on the move though it was rapid.

mine runs really well, just got a k&n panel filter and runs on 98 (its cheap over here in cyprus at the rate i get paid) still got to rev to near the red line but only cause i dont really know what the power band is. I do find the gears aren't very long for motorway milage.
