Hi guys & girls - I am new to this forum so HI to everyone. I presently drive a 57 plate CC 1.6 Dyn. The car was first registered on 31 October 2007 and has done 7200 trouble free miles.
I am hoping that some light can be shed on a problem before I take it to my local dearlership.
The problem is a very unnerving vibration that only happens when the roof is folded down.
No matter what size of hole or drain cover - as the car passes over the irregularity the front suspension sort of jack hammers very rapidly for a short time. It really is slightly scary but I have not owned a CC before so am not aware of what is normal for this car.
If anyone can shed some light on this or maybe they have had similar experiences I would love to hear from you all. At least I will be able to go to Renault here in Plymouth armed with a bit more evidence.
Many thanks
PaulUK

Re: CC suspension vibration when roof down
Not uncommon in most Cabriolet's.. Its called "Scuttle Shake". and is Due to the loss of chassis rigidity because the roof has been "Cut off".. I would guess that your dealer will tell you it is normal and send you on the way, and that is the correct response..
Having driven a CC for 3 years, I can tell you that you will get used to it.. Just enjoy the car if the sun comes out

hi
as mentioned above this is definitely the case- its no cause for concern- even tho CCs have extra rigidity built in to the chassis, which is why they are so heavy, imagine how a shoe box behaves when you take the lid off..it becomes bendy- this is the same in convertibles....avoid pot holes has to be the advice!!!

Thanks All
I will accept that and not worry my silly head Eh ????
I must admit that it is my first CC so have no experience in the skuttle shake department.
I must admit that driving with the roof down is completely addictive - its like having the biggest sunroof in the world !!!
I for one shall take comfort from your advice and just enjoy my brilliant CC.
Thank you one and all !!!!!

Also avoid getting too much attention. It goes to the head. I thought the car was shrinking but it was my head becoming bigger.
