Renault Megane '53 started kangarooing......

Postby amandamoo11 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:43 pm

Please can anyone help me. My car started to kangaroo on my way home from work today. It happened suddenly with no warnings. I don't know much about cars but it would clear itself if i dropped down a gear & put my foot on the throttle. Its recently been services & had an oil change all filters replaced & spark plugs but I have been told the car has coils. Could it be this that is causing the problem? Sometimes in the morning when I press 'Start' I get a strange backfiring noise too. Has anyone had problems like mine before?? Please help me......I am loosing faith in this car & I've only had it since Nov '07

What you describe sounds like mis-firing so it could be faulty coils, faulty spark plugs or several other less likely faults. If your car is less than three years old, this will be warranty work. If not, have a word with the people who last serviced the car and see if they are willing to look at the fault FOC. Continuing to drive a vehicle that mis-fires will spell the demise of your catalytic converter which will be expensive to replace so try and get someone to look at it sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the advise. Its going into the garage tomorrow so fingers crossed. I've not driven it since yesterday when the problem occured. My over half took it out for a spin coz he didn't believe there was a problem & the toxic fume filter light started flashing. I'm regretting buying this car. I had the older shaped megane & had no major issues with it. My car is a jinx.......but it sounds like I'm not alone! :(

By the way, have you ever had water in the pocket on the drivers side?

Most have. Renault made a water shield to stop water leaking in via the speakers.
If you fit aftermarket speakers, someone would have had to remove them to fit the new speakers.

One or more of your coil packs has gone. A very common problem not just specific to the Megane or Renault!
Make improvements, not excuses!

Hi Jonault,
I have been searching for a relevant plase to put this, and I am trying here.
My 04 Megane 1.6 played up the coil-trick and had first one then three more coils plus cam sensor and tdc sensor - and still playing up the coil-trick (intermediate ignition failure, running on three sylinders, blinking service and emission in different and varying patterns). I made some phone calls and found a mechanic who sounded a lot more inspirede than the ones I had dealt with earlier, and he later diagnosed and changed one injector with too high resistance. This was at 82 000 km and not very typical. So don't get blinded by the coil thing and get a good mechanic to look harder and further.
