I have had no problems with my brakes on my 53 Meg except for them always squealing which is annoying and something I have never had on previous models/other makes of cars.
When it has had a service it comes back and they are squeal free for a day or so and then it returns.
When the pads are due for replacement (not for about a year yet I hope) what are GreenStuff pads which I have seen on this forum. Are they the 'bees knees' and will they cure the problem? Why do the current ones squeal?
And are Green Stuff expensive as I am not a DIYer
Thanks
Gordon

No, there is no magic in these pads. They are just made with Kevlar, which is kind on disks, have a much wider thermal envelope and have a higher friction coefficient than the regular pads. GreenStuff will significantly improve braking and the overall driving experience if and only if all other parts of the brakes are in a good condition. It is probably the best road-legal pad one can get. On the other hand, many cars with standard pads don't squeal...
What causes squeal?
- Stuck calipers or hydraulic cylinders. I hope you changed the brake fluid twice by now. It serves 2 years maximum and it is a characteristic of the fluid and not a car.
- Rust. It is formed on the disk, sticks to the pad and creates a rust-to-metal friction pair.
- Burnt resin from overheated pads, which sticks to the disk, thus again forming a wrong friction pair.
- Burnt disk (blued).
- Some other sort of contamination of the friction material.
- Deformed calipers.
- Lack of lubrication on the back of pads.
- Incorrectly composed pad material.
