The rear brake light on the D/S of my Megane 2008 doesn't work.
I tested the current in the relative wire leading to the cluster and found that to be working fine.
Is repairing a bulb holder something I want to be attempting? and if so what am I looking for?
The obvious one would be corrosion, but all the connections (that are flat aluminium) appear to be in good shape. The car has only done 37000m.
If anyone has done this repair before can you let me know what was the fault?
Rear Bulb Holder. Repair or replace?

Re: Rear Bulb Holder. Repair or replace?
If you are facing the rear of the car looking at the connector for the driver side rear light cluster, the wires from left to right are:
violet, beige, black, orange, blue and white.
The brake lights positive connector is the orange wire.
I have attached a bulb to this wire and when the brake is depressed it lights up.
However, when I took the bulb holder off the rear of the car and used a 12v battery to analyse why the brake light won't work, I found that the brake circuit is completed only when I apply a positive current to the first connector, the Violet wire!
The 2008 Megane manuals electric diagram shows that the orange wire is indeed the brake light but doesn't show in what order the various wires should be arranged.
I can not see what the violet wire is supposed to be used for!
I want to change the order of the wires where they are attached to the bulb holder, swapping the orange with the violet.
My feeling is that the violet wire is for rear fog lights, but my car does not have rear fog lights.

Has anyone recently looked at their rear light clusters connectors and noted the order the wires are connected?
Would it be the end of the world if I swapped those two wires over?
