Electronic Fault - Fuse Board has gone furry

Postby binge » Thu Dec 19, 2013 2:54 pm

Right guys,

After receiving my key back from being repairs, I still could not get the car to start.
It just comes up saying 'Electronic Fault' on the dash board.

Now, after doing a bit of reading, I heard the fuse box is common for furring up. So I pulled it out, and was greeted with this instead:

So it appears the component on the bottom right of the board (As you look from the top) has burnt into the board.
There was also a popped fuse, which was one of the 10a ones (Cant remmber which).
A lot of the plug recesses were all furred up too.

So I've removed all fuses, soaked board in WD40, Air-lined it all off clean, and changed all the fuses for new / good ones.

But I dont know what to do about this burnt bit. Should I just give it a go? Or is this defo fubar'd?

Cheers,

Ben

i would hazard a guess that the component is u/s, can you not get another fuse board from the breakers
Drive it like you stole it

I am a Transport manager for a large breakers in Kent.
We had a Megane in the yard today, which I whipped the fuse board out of.
Very slightly different looking, but physically the same. It's got the same part number, but the fuse board on my CC, has an -A on the end of the number.
But it's got the same plugs and fuses in it.

So today, I tried the replacement board, and still nothing.

Got chatting to a friend, and he told me to try living up the main power plug, bottom left of the fuse board as you look at it.
So I stuck a live from the battery, straight to the board, instantly, the 'Electronic fault' light went out, steering lock kicked in, and the car fired up and drove.

I left it stood for the rest of today, then went back to it about an hour ago after work.
Started the car, and within a minute or so, all the electrics started fecking around again! Electronic fault light on etc.

So I've pulled the fuse board back out, and it's full up with bloody water again!

So I need to seriously look into waterproofing this bloody thing.

Just got the unit in my kitchen now, pulled all the fuses out, and fuse number 8D has blown (A 10a fuse). Would be interesting to know what this one is.
