Wheel bearing help

Hello,

I have a noise coming from the rear near side wheel which sounds to me as though it is the wheel bearing. I have been told by a couple of garages that the wheel bearing is included in the brake disc and this would need to be replaced at the same time. Is this the case or is it just them trying to get more money out if me? I have looked online and can buy just the wheel bearing on its own which makes me wonder why they would sell a wheel bearing in its own if it would be no use!!

Please if anyone has had this before could you help as don't want to fork out on new discs if they're not needed!

no, you don't need to change the discs and bearing, but you have to go for the aftermarket. you find SKF and Timken bearings for the car without changing the all set.

If the bearings have failed, then the discs might be worn as well. The other way is also true. This is why they are supposed to be changed together. With the new discs you must install new pads. GreenStuff are the best in my opinion. Installation is 40 minutes DIY. A garage will do it quicker, but keep the car for a day, charge for an hour and neglect to do the anti-corrosion stuff, which will cause the ABS sensor failure within 10 years.

The front hub is more complex. This is why the front discs are separate from the bearings.

if you change the whole set you will change the other side too, the one that is still ok, besides, the pads must be changed too in case you change the discs also, and maybe the pads are in both sides ok too...

make some maths and see if its the best deal.
