Hi all,
Been on a good run with my car, and not been any problems what so ever! has not missed a beat!
However i have a very noisy engine, recently had clutch, crankshaft pulley and a service done by garage...
Well i think its loud, i heard a megane 1.5 dci in the same carpark, and it was almost as if the car wasnt running it was that quiet, and mine just sounds like a typical diesel, knocking away as they do like a tractor!
so is there a comparable difference, and if the 1.9 dci should be ticking over almost silent, what could be the problem, no coil light, no injection faults, no turbo faults, no egr faults, all running as it should, i cant remember the sound of when i bought it so cant say if its gotten worse....
i had the crankshaft pulley replaced, and had it done again as it was still noisy, now the garage says its still not quiet and thinks the aircon pump could be seized as it does not make any noise when the belt is off, and it cants be the pulley as its been replaced with two different models....
aircon works perfect i must add....
hoping my dci 1.9 is fine and this engine is loud anyway compared to the 1.5...
mines a megane, and the 1.5 dci i seen was a megane aswell...
cheers
How loud is the 1.9 dci? (compared to 1.5dci)

I have a 1.9dci with 95k on the clock and there is no mistaking it's a diesel - it sounds more like a van than one of the near silent modern diesels.
If the noise hasn't increased since you had the work done I wouldn't worry!

I've deffo got a split somewhere then,
My turbo a screams. There's no smoke ect.
Pulls fine, I'm not sure if the second hand intercooler pipe has blew, or if the pipe on the turbo has a split, struggle to see back there as its crammed!

My friend had a 1.9 (130 - non-FAP) and I don't recall it being loud.
My 1.5 is very quite for a diesel, both inside and when your standing next to it with the engine running. In comparison, my neighbours Golf and my brother's Passat sound like tractors (all VW diesels sound about the same)....

Mines the 120 (88kw) faq800 non fap.
Think I have the older school engine as on 117000 and no dmf faults and are also uncommon

Re: How loud is the 1.9 dci? (compared to 1.5dci)
In a good condition it is not much louder, but creates more vibration inside than 1.5dci and more than modern small Ford, VW or Citroen diesels. Certainly no "taxi" sound, which is effectively a sound of either a badly worn engine or a diesel without common rail injection. The sound can be amplified if the engine mount has collapsed. If the engine is worn, then there will be sound, of course.

I have the 1.9 now and had the 1.5 last time
I remember a mate saying in my 1.5, is this a diesel? after me saying it was earlier because it was that quiet.
The 1.9 is a bit louder but you will need to get it next to another 1.9 to compare
driving wise the 1.9 isn't that bad, quiet good really but the 1.5 is fairly quiet, almost petrol quiet
