boot unlocking fault

Postby Ktmrider » Sun Feb 05, 2012 12:53 pm

Hi, I have a 56 megan CC and the boot has started randomly unlocking itself. When it is open I can still hear the lock trying to release intermittantly. I assume it must be the switch, even though it sounds to be opperating OK. Has anyone ever taken the boot release switch out, or had a similar problem? :banghead

i Have not heard of that problem before but to take out the switch you must remove the back number plate holder and the number plate lights
there are four t15/20 screws and that whole piece slides down.

The switch is the same on the hatchback and sedan so id u get a used one any of them will work.

Hope that helps...

i had this problem last year , whilst driving the boot would unlock and when i used the central locking button on fob to lock the vehicle the boot would unlock it self , i changed the boot release switch which is located above number plate if you use a small screwdriver and gently prize the switch out which is held in by small clips unplug the wire and replace the switch about a 10 min job this should sove the problem as it is quite a common fault with the cc , the cost of the switch was about £28 ish from a main renault dealer , i have had no problems since , hope this helps

Had the same fault a few weeks ago, including not being able to open the boot. After prising the switch off with a screwdriver, I left it on the radiator to dry out in case it was damp (as the rubber on the button was split). Sprayed it with WD and its been ok since.

Thanks for the info, I tried to remove the numberplate holder but the numberplate had been rivited through the whole tailgate. Will try getting the switch out next time I am off work. (12 hour shifts don't help) Once again thanks for the advice.

you shouldnt need to go any where near the number plate holder as the switch is located above it , the switch is the button encased in rubber which is the button that you press to open the boot

i have stripped a couple meganes and i had an issue with the switches breaking if i did not remove the number plate holder.
But if you can get it out without removing the holder go for it as it will save you some time.
by the way my number plate holder was also riveted in but i managed to get it out without removing the rivets. i just pressed them up while pulling the number plate holder down....
