1st servicing my meane 1.9 dci 05

Postby superdude » Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:32 pm

after trawling through the forum and not finding what i need to know, i have no option but to pester you fine fellows for some insight, words of wisdom and kindness.

money is tight in this devonians household, which means i could do with servicing me motor meself this time around, ive serviced a few cars in my time but with my megane being my bestest and favouritest car ive had, i dont want to be guessing when im knee deep in oil.

i have a few question that i really need to know before i jack her up and get me tools out.

1. the oil filter - where is it and is a pain to get on and off.

2. the fuel filter, again where is it and how do i change it , will i need to prime it once its done and how do i go about doing the priming.

3. the air filter, i think i know where this one is, but just incase im wrong-where is she hiding

4. you will be glad to hear that i already know where the pollen/heater filter is.

i know theirs more to servcing a car that just changing the filters etc but its the main focal point, i have a list of servicing points from this site which i plan to follow.

any help you kind people can throw my way ( i m sourcing a hayes manual as we speak) will be greatly appreciated

cheers people

Welcome along lad...

1. the oil filter - where is it and is a pain to get on and off.

This is located on the driver side front corner. You will need to remove the front bumper or arch lining to have access.

2. the fuel filter, again where is it and how do i change it , will i need to prime it once its done and how do i go about doing the priming.

No idea the location on the DCI however to prime there is a squeezy 'bulb' under the hood. Someone will confirm their locations.

3. the air filter, i think i know where this one is, but just incase im wrong-where is she hiding

The air filter is beside the battery.

As to the pollen / air filter... purchase this one from ebay, a resonable price and the only one have I seen that uses active carbon as filtrate. (absorbs alot more of the crap in the air than a material filter.

Any other questions / problems ask away.

The fuel filter on the 2002-2005 dci is in the drivers side wheel arch behind the front black section. Remove clips and possibly torx screws to gain access. Can't miss it - big black bulb. Unhook from mounting, unclip hoses and a wiring connector, remove from car. Mark the position of the top half to the bottom half. Remove top screw that holds it together. Pull out filter from inside and clean all out. Put in new element, re-assemble in reverse order.

thanks a million you both,

i have ordered the filters, i did see a pack on flea bay for £15 delivered that contained all four filters but its just seems too cheap to be any good,

with regards to the fuel pump, will it need priming after ive done the job? and is it just a case of pumping a ball?

also what tools do i need to get the cover off underneath the engine.

loving the forum

keep up the good work people

if anyone needs advice on surfboards or surfing, let me know-and ill ask me mate!

warmest regards

Pump the ball. Observe the clear pipe from the fuel pump. When clear of air, start up. Might crank a few seconds longer than normal on the first try.
