car is turned off and locked and the radio is still lit

Postby warthog » Sat Jul 17, 2010 8:17 pm

Ok, my car is a 2003 1.9 and the car is turned off and locked and I just now noticed that the radio buttons are still lit up. Any clues?

I did have an issue with the draining of the ac condensation that I fixed today, but I didn't think any water got near the radio wires...

Thanks in advance!

I would guess that you have disturbed some wiring if the fault wasn't present before you carried out the work.

To be honest, I am not entirely sure the if the problem was there before the I worked on the car. It is my wife's car and since the days are long, she doesn't drive much at night.

I pulled the center cover off, removed the radio and looked at the wires. They are nowhere near where i was working the other day and I don't know if I could have affected them at all.

I plugged the radio back in and still the same problem occurs. The radio works fine, but when I exit the car and lock it, the radio head unit is still illuminated. Could this be something with the radio unit itself? Luckily, even though the head unit was on all last night, the car started with no problems.

Has anyone encountered anything like this???

Thanks again.

It can be a manifestation of some other fault. The manual says, for example, that the steering lock may refuse to engage in case a fault in airbags. Lock yourself in the car and check if all electrics is powered down. Did you have any airbag or other warnings recently?

I am just guessing. You may want to read the manuals for more details. See the sticky thread at the top of this forum.

I did have an airbag warning because I was driving around with the passenger airbag on/off switch unplugged (because of the work I was doing on from the flooding). Can you please link me which sticky to read? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!
A

Its a version of another fault with the radio. Some turn on, others don't and the fault usually occurs when its cold. Either way it will drain your battery so would disconnect it.
