Front passenger electric window

Postby Graham Wright » Thu Jun 04, 2009 10:31 pm

Renault Megane 1.6 dynamique 2004
The other night the passenger window dropped for no apparent reason. It was a sudden drop, quicker than motor speed. I have read on this forum that the regulator can be a problem due to water ingress. You can hear the motor running but there is no window upness. I am inclined to shy away from the regulator theory as we have had no rain or car cleaning for well over a week and there is no sign of water having got in anyway.
After removing the trim I found that the rear cable had come off the top roller and was flapping around. After groping around a bit i managed to get the cable back onto the roller and it now supports the window but i don't seem to have any movement up or down although you can hear the motor trying to work.
I am thinking maybe a trapped cable or something like that or am i barking up the wrong tree and it is a regulator problem.
Any help on the subject would be apreciated. :banghead

Hello all
Thought as there have been no replies to this topic, I would post my resolution to the problem as I have managed to sort it out under my own steam with a little help from my next door neighbour
once the window had dropped due to my friend operating the window control whilst slamming the door, causing the cable to jump the roller. Of course the temptation is to try and get the window to go up using the motor. First mistake. If this happens to you DO NOT OPERATE the switch. This causes the cables to wrap themselves around the motor drum and get all frayed and kinked. This is what happened to me. Therefore I had to strip all the motor down and straighten all the kinks out. The next step is to make sure that all the cable end lugs are correctly located in their housings. If all this is done then get yourself a piece of stout wire and bend a hook on the end and reach down the side of the window with it. Using the hook pull the cable over the upper roller making sure the flexible housing also goes into its housing. It will be tight and is very fiddly but so far, touch wood, it is still all working one week after repair. I think by the way it would be almost impossible for 1 person to do so get some one to help.
There probably is an easy way to do it but haven't found it yet.
The moral of the story is i think, don't let anyone operate the windows whilst shutting the doors. Easier said than done i suppose.

Regards to all
Graham

Just fixed drivers side electric window for same reason as Graham . Reason for this 'cabeljumping' was broken nylon
cablequide which is located just before roller. Cable got loose and that's it. Went to dealer buy new,but they don't
sell spares for electric windows, only whole package with motor!!!! 460€...

Has anyone used these: https://www.windowregulatorman.co.uk/ren ... ulator.htm

Prices are ok i think. How's quality?
