Its the toruqe lad, I have had a chipped 120DCI 'smoke me' in 4th gear 50 - 80.

Just couldn't compete. However if I'd drop a gear he would have no chance.

Yeah the diesels low end power is very good.
However, being a diesel, the gears dont last long, you simply cant rev it anywhere near as high as petrols; its just a fact that will always be there.
But it depends on the driver, if you do alot of driving, long distance then a diesel all the way, more casual, then go for a petrol, turbo if possible.

Personally, i actually prefer driving diesels, i'm just a torque kinda guy!

I loved the torquey feel to begin with but now the novelty has worn off it actually doesnt feel anywhere near as torquey and i really miss not being able to rev past 4500rpm. Raced my cousins mk4 golf gti, at the start of every gear change i accelerated quicker but then he caught up as i had to change gear so friggin quickly.

And if i decide to give it a bit of welly my gf complains that the torque actually hurts her neck.......

Mine is around 140-150bhp at the minute, its only got a tuning box on there not a full remap, which i'm hoping to get in a few weeks after i've decatted & got a new back box. Then it will be around 160bhp. It wont be as quick off the mark as a 2l petrol, but i guarantee it will overtake faster and make more use of the mid range.

As a clue to the power, i out ran a modeo st (the old one) up a hill, it was 1/4 up hill, very steep and at the top i was touching 90mph he was behind me (i started behind) and i could hear his engine screaming over my diesel. He turned off shortly after, so he didnt have chance to rub my face in it over 100mph lol.

Its sad that these 1.9's arent as tunable as the vw's or the vauxhalls, they are capeable of over 200bhp without any serious modification.

You maybe supprised, have you had it on a rolling road yet? My 1.9dci managed 150bhp / 240lbft with no mods.

My wife has a 2.0L vvt (estate admittidly) and although its a nicer drive (imo) its not as quick at any point as my derv.

Awesome looking those 2. Looking to do something similar.

I have just bought one in gunmetal grey (2005, 1.9dci, 3 door) and have bought a 225 back bumper with the 225 back box. Should it fit alright?
Also looking for wheels. Does anyone know what the centre bore diameter is and stud to stud measurement?

Thanks in advance.

Much appreciated Eddie. Just looking at some multifit alloys off ebay at mo.
Once I get the car looking half decent, will post my first pics.
Ps. Will the exhaust need much of a mod or just a bit of an angle grinder jobby?

Bad news. My mechanic says that the 225 back box has 2 mounts and my dci back box only has one. To fit the 2nd mount he says it's not do able as where the 2nd mount needs to go is plastic (spare wheel area).

Could anyone supply a photo of underneath to show how its done?

Help!!
