Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.
If the rear wiper works manually, then it does sound to be the switch that has failed - the electronics don't know the gearbox is in reverse,,,

Thanks Gav,
I was suspicious of the switch all along,
Here is the hard part, I can't find where it is
I've tried looking in the engine bay on the top and around al the accessible bit of the gearbox, but can't find it, is it masquerading as something ?
Any clues on it's exact location would be appreciated,
Is it hidden in some way?
Russ.

re: rear wiper coming on when engaging reverse.
As far as I know, this is meant to happen when you have the wiper stalk in the intermittant position, it shouldn't have anything to do with the lights coming on

Ok so I'm still in the dark,
Following everyone's advice on here, I've changed both bulbs and tested the old ones, they both worked OK via a tester.
I replaced the reversing light switch on the gearbox. (Genuine part from Parks Renault.)
I tested and replaced the 10 amp fuse 5c on the multiplex unit.
I've done all these things and still the reversing lights fail to come on.
What is my course of action now?
Is there anything else I've missed?
Thanks
Russ.

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.
You need to see if you are getting a 12volt supply up to the reverse bulb holders in the lamp units when the car is in reverse.
Or if all else fails, try THESE.

Yes thanks Busterlouie, very funny.
The problem is when I’m trying to reverse into a parking space, and I get people coming up behind me, they get really close and don’t realise that I’m trying to back up.
Reversing lights actually give other road users a clue that you intend to back up.
Anyway Yes I’ve used a test meter on the bulb holders when the car is in reverse and yes there is no voltage on both sides.

So what everyone really means is, this is likely to be a big job, and almost certainly going to be expensive to sort out
Am I about right in my assumption?
Russ.

Re: Can't see in the dark whilst reversing.
So Far we have three possible locations for the REVERSE SWITCH RENAULT MEGANE.
1. Under the Gear Lever Inside the Car - wrong its not there
2. Under the battery and battery case - done this cant see it.
3. Remove the Left front side Wheel and you can see it? - haven't tried this just yet.
Why is it so hard for someone to tell the internets where the reverse switch is located?
Where is the Reverse switch on my Megane 1.6 DCI Manual 5 Speed Oasis?
I got so annoyed that there was nothing on the internet about this that i decided to take matters into my own hands.
Here is MY MEGANE in a youtube video that shows the location of the Reverse Switch.
