oil changing

Postby shazy b » Mon Feb 14, 2011 6:05 pm

hubby has a quick shuffty under the engine (megane 07 1.9cdi saloon), and oh no! its got a sump cover
questions are....
is this cover easy to remove?
is the sump plug just an ordinary size... just pop a socket on... and what size?( not a hex or anything!!)
sorry these questions are generated by my beloved...not me
he wants to change oil himself (does trust kwik fit, since the mondeo insident off 2005!)
dont ask, :? but the man at kwik fit rang the dibbles!!!!! :cry
thanks as allways :-)

There are 3 M10 bolts at the front of the cover (under the bumper), 2 M10s further back, and 2 more at the back. Easy on, easy off. 8)

The sump bolt is a 8mm SQUARE female: you will need a male socket to remove it. Get a new washer from Renault before refitting.

Use only a fully synthetic A4/B4 oil. Mobil 1 0w40 or 5w40 is best.

personally i would not trust any of the major chains, they are all rip offs. why trust a tyre fitter to service your car anyway?

your best bet is to find a proper independent garage. i would use a fully synthetis oil as well.

the sump cover is not easy to remove if the M10 bolts have welded themselves to the aluminium sockets. i managed to remove the front three and the one behind the passenger side front wheel, i got a large hole cutting saw and drilled a hole out underneath the sump plug. what would it have took for Renault to put in a removable disc like in the wheel arch
