Plexiglass deflector

Postby JasonS » Mon Jul 26, 2010 3:12 pm

After knocking something up myself with some scrap perspex and testing it with both my daughters in the back, I ended up buying one of these:

It's clearly not as good as the factory deflector (which I also have) but at least it stops the little darlings whinging quite so much..

All I used to hear was "I'm cold, can we have the roof back on now Daddy" after only 2 minutes..

It's not cheap..

But it is very thick, proper branded plexiglass and CNC cut.. came next day delivery encased in wooden packaging..

If someone makes a template of the shape, I could get that manufactured (8mm gloss perspex) for a lot less.

I say again, anyone wanting CNC manufactured parts that either resemble or are exactly like that, they can be supplied.

Jason, get back to me.

Dave,

I'd be interested at a sensible price.

The problem is one of volume. In order to make the price low, the manufacturer has to offset the tooling and programming costs (I'll do the programming for nothing). If you want one, expect to pay £500 for it. A bulk order of, say, 50 - would mean a price per unit of around £30-40 - the main concern at this level is the cost of acrylic sheets. Again, cost comes down with large numbers of sheets (5 off, 10 off, 100 off, etc.) If someone wants to market these things and buy them wholesale from me, I can supply them. As you can see, 1 offs are not really affordable.

I'll have a word with the workshop manager again. Will still need a template.
