Seriously consdering this (flight booked)

Postby Paddy » Mon Jul 05, 2010 9:28 pm

I have come into possession of a few quid and it is burning a hole.

I have always wanted a fine example of a 5GT and after some searching i came across this...

I have been speaking to the seller and if their word is the truth its in fantastic condition and from the year of my birth.

Anyone driven / had experience of this model (1986)

I did have one in 1994 (briefly). It was, how shall I put it, fun, but seriously dangerous. Those things are made out of tin. There isn't much between you and anything else.

Simple and effective is probably one way of summing it up - it goes like sh1t off a shovel - just don't prang it and expect to live.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

It’s to be garaged, pranging won’t be a possibility.

Maybe just maybe the odd Sunday drive.

If your going to buy it you may aswell use it and get some enjoyment from it. At the end of the day, they were made to be driven. Letting it stand will cost more in the long run.

The car looks fantastic btw

I plan to clean/restore it bit by bit, then have it the centre piece of my garage, gym, games room. :D

Maybe just me but i have always had a fascination.

The one I had was an '86 on a D plate.

Good points; look well, handle brilliantly and go like the preverbial.

Bad points; build quality isn't that good but if you're planning a rebuild then that's sorted, ride is spine breakingly bad over rough surfaces, as the engine bay is so cramped engine temp can soar; so much so that I wired up the rad fan to a rocker switch on my dash and lastly the driving position is a bit naff, you are sat on it rather than it but I am 6' and a mate of mine who had one and was shorter had no such problem.
