My week to france (hire car)

Postby Paddy » Sat Jun 26, 2010 3:45 pm

Well in just back from a week at my folks house in Nice. I was there with the GF just for a quick change of scenery.

Before we went i booked a car online with AVIS to pic up at the airport for the week, Only things i specified was it was a GOLF/MEG/ASTRA type care with a petrol engine. So we arrived at the airport i was excited to see what i get to drive as this was my first time driving on the 'wrong' side of the road.

Got to the desk handed over my doc's and after about five mins the fella said 'Here’s your keys, it a Ford C-max 1.8'. I looked at him as if he had two heads (I thought to myself not a family car) took the keys and walked out to find it, not as excited as i had been.

Anyway on my way to the car i pasted a rather nice looking 230 Megane. Now my heart started to race... is that a rental? I had to go back but my GF said no no no this will be fine. So i dandered on to the Cmax and loaded her up.

I was about to drive out of the car park and thought 'feck that' I’m going to ask! GF moaning in my ear.

So parked up and went in and spoke to the fella in my best Franglais and asked about the Megane. It was a higher car and they wanted and extra 8 euros a day to swap! I nearly threw my wallet at him.

Her she is..

I had such a good time in that motor. I would get up at 8 most morning tell the GF i was just going to get breakfast and not return until well after 10. I went through 2.5 tanks of fuel or there abouts in a week.(150L ish) I shouldn’t say it but was the highlight of the holiday!

You jammy git! I would have spent the entire holiday rallying it round. It looks in brilliant condition too.

It looks quite good in that colour aswell. Unusual that it doesn't have a boot spoiler. I thought it was only the dci's that came without the spoiler.

Hadn't noticed that...

Prehaps french spec's are slightly differnet? It was by no means fully loaded. Although it did have the pop up navigation.

And if a derv it ran well on 98.
