Wheel wobble when braking

Postby nickbell69 » Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:13 am

Hello to all out there and thanks for the expert advice in advance that i'm sure you will all impart my way.

Over last few days i've noticed a knocking/clunk when hitting uneven surfaces ie speed ramps :mad pot holes etc. But also noticed under heavy braking the steering wobbles slightly from left to right. not noticeable under normal braking. Fri to Mon for long weekend "relaxation" so will be taking a look then. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Might be the schock bearing, I've just had my right side one changed. Had similar symptoms, a click sound when turning the steering wheel in central position, and some shaking on breaking.

it might also be a snapped spring. best get the whole suspension checked over/

I have a 53REG Megane 1.9DCI. Great car with no major problems so far (touch wood :? )

However, I am experiencing a wobble problem when I'm braking, specially from high speed. It's quite bad as wobbles through to the steering wheel and my door mirrors shake aswell. Doesn't happen at low speed and when travelling at high speed and brake harder, the wobble dissappears.

Anyway, I'm having my wheel balancing checked tomorrow as the car does suffer from vibration when travelling at 70mph. Also, I should mention that I had all my discs/pads renewed last Oct 2008.

Could the wobble result in warped discs? And, by turning the discs over, can this cure it?

Any help will be much appreciated as I do not trust the Mechanics in my area as they can say anything with what the problem might be even if it's not :sad

Thanks

Warped discs sound a distinct possibility - although odd if they are so new. I'd check to see if they were fitted correctly and that the pads and callipers are mounted securely. Sorry - can't be of more help..

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
