Bl**dy aircon... HELP PLEASE!!!!

Postby Starman » Fri Jul 03, 2009 4:35 pm

Please, anyone, I'm begging now. Let me tell you story so far... :banghead

Bought Megane 1.5dci 86 last Sat. When checking it, all seemed ok, in as much as when I pushed the air con button, the light came on, so I just switched it off again! Any how, driving home, it got a little warm, so switched it on. "not very cold" I thought... I'll try re-gassing. Took to Kwik Fit, they re-gassed, checked again, turns out it's not actually working! Tracked down auto electrician, took it to him. Tried Snap-on code reader, couldn't see air con. Tried Sykes Pickavant reader, couldn't see air con. Went to other local garage, tried Launch X437 (or something like that), saw air con, NO FAULTS! Screen was seeing air con switch on and off but no compressor clutch. Back to auto electrician, stripped out battery, etc to get to fuses. ALL fused ok. Traced wire to compressor, applied 12v, clutch worked. Applied 12v to fuse for clutch, clutch works.

Summary: Switch in car dash ok.
ECU seeing switch....switching!
Wiring for clutch back to fuse box ok.
Fuse for clutch, ok.

I was already mostly bald but what little hair I have left I'm pulling out! All I need is for someone to tell me what's wrong so I can fix it!!! Both auto eletrician and other local independant seeem foxed!! :conf (what chance have I got!!??)

PLEASE HELP ME, SOMEONE....... :-( :cry :nut

No worries, I attempted to source from Aircon supplies and manufacturers, but dealer part only.

I also have aircon problems with an 04 magane 1.9 diesel. Had it regassed at kwik fit too and it still didn't work so they didn't charge me.... Took it somewhere else today (National auto centre) and they re gassed it and it does work! It has a leak by a sensor which needs to be sorted (I've heard there was a recall on this fault, but can't find any evidence?? :?: ?).
Conclusion is you CAN get better than a kwik fit fitter!!!! :grin

Quick update.

Car now in at local air con specialist (found them by accident. Only 8 or so miles from me!!!) I have told them what I can about it and the story so far. I'm expecting a call from them tomorrow (Wed 8th July). I am hoping for good news!!

J.

Recommendation or otherwise to follow, but if first impressions are anything to go by, it's a great start! Nice guys, but jury out... :-)

I have a 1.5dci my aircon works... but doesn't get very cold? does this mean it needs re-gassing?

Starman hope you get it sorted...

Well I went for a recharge today a Kiwk Fit as the air con was blowing 26C. (A sin some may say but I had a voucher)

The fella hooked it up to the machine, but after a few mins he told me it couldn't be done as the system wasn't engaging.

I immediately though this is going to be expensive (leak, compressor etc.)

Any how I went home and had a gander. It turned out there was no 10 amp fuse for air con in the under the bonnet fuse box.

Don’t now how, don’t know why but I haven't been in that box, in the time I have had her.

Fitted the closest I had 15 amp and she now blows 5C air.

So now that’s sorted now and hasn’t cost me a penny, I can take the good lady out for dinner.
Its turned out to be a win win situation!

Hurah!! :D

I now have Air Con! The guys I found, brilliant. Fixed and working, less than £60! How much do I wish I'd found them before???? Turns out to have been a switch fault but it had only stuck. They removed the switch, without removing the bumper (apparently), fixed it, put it back, sorted! These guys are specialists in Air Con and they've told me that should I have any more probs with it then they'd order me a switch. But in their experience, very few go wrong again! They also found a good number of faults logged that THREE other machines did not see!

I highly recommend these guys. 8-) They are...

Give them a look... I'll be going back there no problem! :rock

I've just been told that I need a pressure sensor switch for my 1.5DCi Megane by Parks Renault in Ayr. Quoted £160 to supply and fit. They did my timing belt today for £263 so I don't think they are too expensive for a main dealer.... but I've just found the switch online for under £40 so I think I'll order it and fit it myself. Its a genuine part from a renault stockist so as there seems to be lots of folk with the same problem, I thought I'd post a link to the site.

Ive had a fault with the aircon on my 56 plate 1500DCI from new - its been back to Renault umpteen times and nearly every component has been changed and they still havent fixed it!! The aircon light works ok but every now & again the compressor fails to operate , then its off to my local independant Renault specialist who then plugs his Clip diag system into it and re-activates it and its ok for months-no other diagnostic machine seems to work on it,the last time it packed up was over Christmas when laid up for ten days and the battery went flat - without it working its almost impossible to keep the windows mist free in damp weather.

Get him to reflash you ECU with the latest version...

See if that cures it.
